Its a strange one coming from me....but I see Dougie Luiz as an absolute Kernel to this project....

Its not just his playing, its his demeanor and overall attitude to the club/team......He is our Mark Noble.

I liken him to what Ashley Young was abaout the place......He may as well, have been born in Aston for me, they way he ingrains the club.

just don't see him moving on at all.

Selling Luiz would be a retrograde step. Can't see it happening.

In order to be sustainable with FFP we have to generate money for outgoing players, the bigger clubs can sell players they don’t need for £20M+ regularly but for the rest of us it’s a slog, this means inevitably we’ll occasionally need to lose a top player to a bigger club (a la Grealish) to help balance the books. Right now you’d think that would be one of Watkins, Martinez, Luiz, Kamara or Ramsey, though I don’t think we need to sell anyone this summer.

It takes time to build a squad like the bigger clubs have. At the end of the season, really only our best 12-13 players could be sold for £20mill++. There is a massive gap between our best players and the rest.

So far we have added 3 more players that are worth £20mill++. If we continue adding 3-4 top players every season, we would soon have a squad where the 20 best players is worth £20mill++. That is when we can start selling surplus players at £20mill++.

I think our squad have slightly too many players, and moving on some of our weaker players that most like wouldn’t get on the pitch anyway, would be for the best.

True, but it’s doubtful that he’s in the long term plans.

Cash counts as homegrown, which we do have to keep an eye on as the squad develops, considering he's also our only specialist right back I'd say it would be a very bad time to sell him.

Maybe in a year or two as the squad is reshaped and some of the youth players coming through give us a bit more wiggle room with the homegrown quota.

I think it would take a really silly bid for us to consider selling him this window.

Martinez, Moreno, Mings, Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Cash, Kamara, Luiz, McGinn, Tielemans, Buendia, Diaby, Duran, Archer, Ramsey, Bailey….that’s 17 £20m+ players that seem obvious

then arguably Digne might not be far off but probably £10-15m range, Tim is slowly getting there given youth prices these days

zaha to galatasaray has to be one of the more bizarre transfers of the summer

Yeah I agree, although Havertz to Arsenal for such a big fee…I can’t understand why Arsenal have brought him

I can’t understand half the transfers they’ve made this season, it’s like they’ve given up on scouting .

I don’t mind the others, while very expensive at £105m, Rice will be the mainstay of their midfield for the next 10 years and a leader in the middle.  I know don’t think he’s that elite, I do.  Plus it stops close rivals getting him.

Timber is a really good player, again they’ve overpaid but but purely on talent I think Rice and Timber will really enhance Arsenal.

Havertz I’ve got no clue, I don’t think he’s that great anyway but I don’t know where he fits or what he offers them and I’m not convinced he’s the right style for them.

I don’t think we’ll sign a striker

I do.  I think when Emery was talking about a striker he wasn’t referring to a Diaby type player.  Some agree with me, some don’t.

I’m not suggesting we don’t possibly need one but I can’t see us finding one representing value. Going off what Emery has done in the past I can see him putting faith in Archer with the option pf Diaby leading the line also and then there’s Duran still.

Major jealousy on display on Twitter over our Diaby deal. 😆

Don't think other fans will admit it, but we've got a few running scared. I saw a West Ham asking how we've got round FFP with Torres & Diaby.

F FFP.

I’m still expecting a surprise signing (not necessarily expensive) so maybe that could be a striker.  Who knows, whatever happens it’s been an amazing window.

That's a big risk. Archer and Duran are nowhere near Watkins's level right now. We need someone who is more of a finished article to cover. I still think someone like ferran torres would be perfect, as he can play across the front line and had a decent spell as CF while at Man City.
