Popular Post wilko154
This doesn't need to turn into a Watkins vs Duran debate. We've got two class strikers and a lot of games to play this season, it's a great problem to have. Duran now deserves a start against either Everton or Young Boys.

T-Dog
I'd love to see the two of 'em playing together, for some reason I just can't see it working but it could be a deadly partnership if it ever clicked.

Made In Aston
Maybe we will see Duran coming on for Watkins at the 60 minute mark more regularly this season. It seems to be working.

Does seem to be an issue here though that people are petrified of Duran actually starting games and we'd be 0-3 down to Everton if that happened. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think his only starts for us in the prem have come alongside Ollie and they basically spent the first half of those games getting in each other's way. Probably the other occasion was Palace away but everyone could see we couldn't care less about that game and just fulfilled it so not a fair one to judge. Ollie is a lock to start our first CL game but I do think Everton at home is a perfect one to give him a start and then have Ollie coming on at the hour mark if it hasn't quite worked out. Need to get beyond this mentality of thinking the only games Duran can be trusted to start in is Wycombe away in third round of league cup. Keyblade
Just like the start of last season he's getting some crucial minutes and scoring some crucial goals. Hopefully this time we give him more playing time so his form doesn't fade again, and that he doesn't get frustrated again.
Popular Post Jas10
Quote "He’s certainly got his focus back," McGinn said of Duran after the win over Leicester. "For a young player to have so much attention and speculation surrounding him … he’s a character, you can see that at the training ground. Quote "I was quite hard on him last season after one of the games in an interview. Just about his attitude and how he can improve that, but in all fairness I’ve been pleasantly surprised. "I think the coaching staff and players have been pleasantly surprised too about how he has handled it all. He’s an Aston Villa player. He’s trained really well. He has all the attributes to be a world-class striker and we’re seeing glimpses of it now. "It’s credit to him for being focused. If you come and watch training now, he’s focused and he’s sharp and ready to go. Hopefully, we can see more of that and it’s up to us, as players, to make sure he keeps going in the same vein." Quote McGinn added: "He doesn’t seem to have let anything in the summer affect him. Maybe the penny has dropped for him. He’ll get his opportunities, chances and his goals and even his attitude off the pitch. "The way he is around people, around the staff - it has improved a lot - and it’s great to see. We don’t want to see him lose his character, his sense of fun - we don’t want him to lose that - but it’s about doing it at the right times and hopefully he’s found that." Encouraging, firm but also grounded in terms of realising the squad need to work with him rather than flog him. Really positive signs. Hopefully his attitude has changed long-term and this isn't just a flash in the pan.
