Jhon Durán

If the number 9 is true, that could be a magnificent decision from the club. What a boost for the kid who, whilst an absolute **** headcase who has made himself look a right prick, is ultimately a young man who I presume to be both naive and surrounded by people who are advising him badly.

If he is staying put, we may as well boost him up and help him to get his career on track.

No different to what happened with (and how the club behaved) with Benteke after his first season.

there's a big difference between praise and not thinking that he should be lambasted and labelled a coward for it

There was plenty of praise for his decision....

Lambasting is just your opinion, because someone didn't agree with you...

Give him the 9 shirt then immediately announce his season long loan to Real Union.

Think you're so good Jhon? Well go and make it up to Unai by single handedly winning the third division in Spain.

What it all comes down is that John Duran is a £40mill asset for the club.

Many suggestion on how the club should treat Duran would be equal to the club made a bonfire with £40mill in notes and set fire to it.

Duran is maybe not the sharpest knife in the drawer or the most likeable guy out there, but the club needs to do its best to keep or increase the value of Duran.

Since it unlikely we can move him on in this window, we need Duran’s contribution on the pitch, to maintain our top 4 status and be competitive in CL.

If Duran have been given the #9 shirt, that is good news, it means the club have more sense than most people on here.

Actually giving him number 9 could help selling him, as teams will know he’s in our plans (unlike our situation with Joao who all knows he isn’t wanted at his club).

He just needs to bloody well grow up and see the opportunity he has here for what it is.

He is a good player but could be a great one if he could just get out of his own way and allow himself to be coached by the best manager he will ever play for

I've said before he is the ideal profile of player for us to have as backup to Ollie. He will get more game time this year due to our heightened schedule. If emery and his team were to somehow have more patience than us and nurture him and get through his thick skull to stay and work, it will benefit us all.

Let's hope Duran doesn't stay another day

I can’t believe we’re going to give the No 9 shirt to Duran for a few reasons.

The first is the obvious one. He’s acted like a child all summer, we’re hardly going to reward that!

The second and most important reason. If we make a big signing (Felix for the example) having a great number like 9 free makes sense. From a jersey selling point of view. It would also be harsh to ask someone like Buendia to give up the 10 for example. So why make the problem by giving away the 9.

They agreed terms with us > we let them speak to him > they agreed terms with him > they then tried to change the terms they initially agreed with us > we told them to do one.

Yep he has zero influence to become a bad apple in chamging room. Even if he is sulking players like Ollie, Konsa and McGinn are not going to agree with him

In 3 years they'll all be fading forces perhaps and Duran would be coming into his prime. Pretty extreme but we've seen it before how clubs can go from senior professionals to a shambles super quick at Chelsea and Arsenal.

Duran has got shit for brains. He'll have shit for brains at 25. He's absolutely a threat in the long term.

Duran is one of a bunch of very talented prospects that we now have available for match day selection in our squad. Going into our most important season for many years the addition of pace, power, technique and energy to a team that has just finished fourth in the most competitive league in the world is really exciting. Duran needs to remain a part of this if we are to navigate the number of very important games ahead of us.

If we do end up selling him for our apparently non negotiable price, then it should only happen if we can bring in an equally dangerous or even more effective key attacker. I rate Jhon highly, even if he is totally nutty!

Wonder what reaction he'll get at VP, assuming he stays.

If he puts in the hard work and all for the shirt the fans will be back on side

But if he continues acting like a clearing in the woods then the fans wont give him a good reception

What is noteworthy is the general lack of toxicity from fans following on from his much-courted Chelsea love-in on twitter, then his West ham 'X' not long back. Usually this would be the trigger for much vitriol - and I'm sure there are quite a few on that page - but in the main most people just aren't there. Shows what having a relatively successful team for you, and the wave of goodwill around Villa at the moment meaning the reaction is more 'silly boy' rather than 'you ****'.

On a pure Villa front having Duran in the squad is better than not - only because he's better than Archer, and it saves having to look for a replacement back-up. On the other side, let's just hope he doesn't create havoc behind the scenes which just aren't needed by anyone.

This just isn’t true. According to every reliable jurno we never agreed a fee with WH. We want £40m and WH never hit that.
