I'm also a big fan of The Border Trilogy. But I think his masterpiece is Blood Meridian.
The_Rev
They are all incredible, No Country is an amazing adaptation of the book, certainly better than The Road was but yes, Blood Meridian hits hard. It’s a tour de force.
OutByEaster? Posted June 13, 2023 Moderator Share Posted June 13, 2023 His last two - The Passenger and Stella Maris were excellent too. I'd also recommend Suttree which I really loved, it's not often you get to feel a connection and respect for a character in a novel that shits himself twice in the telling of the tale. Popular Post Chindie Posted June 14, 2023 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted June 14, 2023 John Romita Sr, 93. Comic book artist most associated with Marvel, he's best known as the guy who took over from Steve Ditko in Spider-Man when Ditko fell out with Marvel and left. Because of that, the classic Spider-Man canon, including dozens of characters and mainstays of the comic forevermore afterwards, Romita has at very least a hand in - everything from Mary-Jane to the Punisher, and innumerable members of the rogue gallery. He then became an art editor for Marvel as a whole for decades, meaning he was involved in even more character design and essentially became the guy that dictated the 'look' of Marvel comics for 20 odd years. His son still works for Marvel. A big loss. A lot of what we think of when it comes to Marvel's golden age was ushered along by Romita, and he even self-depreciatively would say his key skill was tinkering with other people's ideas to make them better. He wasn't wrong. Lee and Ditko made Spider-Man, but it's Romita getting involved that makes the character what it is now, and his impact is littered throughout the whole juggernaut of Marvel to this day.
