mjmooney Posted March 6, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted March 6, 2023 Billy Bragg's comments on Facebookon the death of David Lindley: Quote Sorry to hear of the death of slide guitar hero David Lindley. I loved his work with Jackson Browne in the 70s and 80s and his solo records too, but I also have some really amazing bootleg live recordings of him and Ry Cooder playing together. Early on in the process of making what became the Mermaid Avenue project, when I was sounding out people about being involved in the first album, I spoke to David via telephone about the possibility of him being producer of the record. He listened politely and expressed interested in the idea, but what he really wanted to talk about was Adge Cutler and the Wurzels. Did I know if this band? Could I find him any of their records for him? At the time living in Chiswick, there was a second hand record shop on the High Street called Spinning Disc. They specialised in 50s and 60s music. I went over there and of course they had a Wurzels album, which I duly sent to Mr Lindley. Never heard another word from him, but I always hoped he’d make an album of Somerset cider songs - ‘Apple Slider’ maybe, or ‘Trouble Over Bridgewater’. 1

Mark Albrighton Posted March 9, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) I think of this independently from time to time, but her death has obviously prompted the thought again. The thought being - “Huh, they made the National Lottery draw into a fully fledged prime tv show and part of that included an astrologer guessing who might win. And at the time, this didn’t seem to my younger self (or the population at large) to be completely mental.” Edited March 9, 2023 by Mark Albrighton
