I can only speak for myself.  I don't think I've posted anything in this thread until today.  When apparently they became The News.

But there's also a difference between your Formula 1 example, as @Seat68says. You don't post in that thread for the same reason I don't. We don't have anything to say about it. Yes, it would be odd if we turned up in a thread that is outside our frame of reference and starting saying how boring it was. But that's not the same as this thread. 

I thought Oasis were fine growing up, I bought two of the first three albums (I think Be Here Now was even the first album I bought with my own money), saw them live (absolutely dreadful, FWIW). And now I think they're pretty plodding musically and the people involved are bell-ends. And now that they are apparently News again, I'm quite happy to comment on it. 

Well that’s where you’re wrong, I do have something say about F1, it’s boring and shit. 

But I don’t feel the need to convey that articulate thought in the relevant thread.

And if you were approaching that position from someone who was a F1 fan 25 years ago, had changed your mind about it and had been able to articulate that and why, I imagine your opinion would probably quite an interesting one for the thread.

And that people might engage with your position and your arguments rather than wanting you to leave them alone.

But then, I've never read that thread so maybe people there are just as pearl-clutchy as they are in this one.

The “there’s music threads you know” is not a dig at you having some perceived specialised taste in music. If anything it’s a dig saying “Oh Bicks is chatting music again, in the wrong thread again…”. That’s certainly how I perceive it.

And yes I know there is that dig about “obscure music” and frankly I don’t care for that either. That dig existing doesn’t mean I think therefore it’s fine for people to regularly post stuff about a particular band they don’t like in their own thread. I’d rather neither happen.

Well, I guess I’m sole pearl-clutchy one. Because it’s really only me that’s making a noise about this. So thanks, that’s ever so nice of you. I’m really debating the necessity of people feeling the need to regularly state how much they dislike a band rather than whether the band themselves are or were any good. I’m not sensitive over Oasis being good or not. Trust me, I know they’re flawed.

It is the tedious and repetitive “Huh they’re shit” style posts. Some people in here don’t like them and never have done. Great, we get it. I look forward to the next round of “Huh these are shit, aren’t they?” posts.

I think Formula One is the dullest spectacle ever. Which is why you never see me in that thread. I just avoid it. 

Do people just go into threads of particular topics they don’t like and repeatedly say “Nah this is shit”? People who hold no interest in wrestling (of which I am one), are you in there criticising it? I actually don’t know as I don’t go in it. Maybe you are. 

And don’t say “Oh well, you don’t like the tories, you post in there, Mark…” Bit different, they supposedly ran the country.

If this was being discussed in the general music thread, then yeah, have at them. 

Totally agree. People are obviously free to post whatever they like in whatever thread (within reason of course) but there’s always people posting in the new Villa kit thread “who even cares? It’s just a kit”. 

Well, just a hunch, but I’m guessing the people that care are the people that like football kits.

Just let people enjoy things

Yeah to be clear, if you want to populate the thread with how much you dislike the band, then hey go ahead.

I’m saying I don’t really get it. Or, that I assume you also populate the threads of all the sports you don’t like saying how much you don’t like them, or if you’re really anti gardening or whatever, saying how much you dislike gardening in the gardening thread. At least there would be a consistency.

Anyway I wanted to Talk Tonight (that’s the title of a much loved b-side from some Manc band) I feel I have done. Hope you all had a jolly nice (Bonehead’s) bank holiday.

It’s a lot of support bands too, if it was all them then they'd be rotating / taking it in turns and that makes little sense logistically.

they are going to do these huge gigs and a massive amount of people are going to pay silly amounts of money because 30 years later there's still been no one better...that's the truth of it, if there had been several big successful bands for the new generations then this wouldn't be a thing, but there simply hasn't been, Oasis still having this draw says as much about music as it does about them
