Musk's Twitter Purchase

If anyone needed any more reason to leave the hellhole that is Twitter, they've now started censoring anyone trying to report on Russia abducting Ukrainian children, as per the German ZDF journalist above. I guess Musk is trying to whitewash his viewpoints. Meanwhile people like George Galloway, Vance, Blumethal et. al. are continuing to spew out disinformation and litteral lies about their paymasters.

What's Heston been up to now?

This Blumenthal is known as Max Blumenthal, he's a vehement Putin shill that essentially spends all day spreading Russian propaganda wherever he is. Close buddy of George Galloway and saint Jeremy.

Weird thing is, I don’t see any of this shit on my twitter.

I don’t get thought bulletins from Musk, I don’t get Russian propaganda, i don’t get this week’s celebrity giving their take on this week’s news story, I don’t even get porn anymore.

I see Aston Villa, my local council, a couple of friends, random music, baby porcupines.

Surely there is an element of the individual needing to understand and curate what they see, or we just close down the internet to protect stupid people.

Twitter isn’t a hell hole. But there are people that look for shit and get served up some shit they don’t like. I guess?

Tbh, twitter's descended back into hell after Elon took over. He fired anyone trying to moderate fake news, inflammatory bs, racists, totalitarian state shills etc.

It's now just a channel full of the above, unless you spend ages trying to clean out your feed. I don't have the time or energy for that. I'd like to be able to see what people I'm interested in are doing without having ten idiotic posts about this week's conspiracy, how great Russia is or how NATO and the West is at fault for everything that goes wrong.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. It is only twitter after all.

Mine isn’t full of all that rubbish, and I haven’t spent anytime cleaning it up. Perhaps it’s an algorithm thing and in the past I’ve been offered shit but didn’t click on it. Perhaps the people I’m following also aren’t liking or retweeting shit. I don’t know. Perhaps I’ve just got a far higher threshold for what I’d consider to be shit!

Just start a new account and follow nice people that do gig listings, crochet bombing of letter boxes, and make trans aware ceramics and you’ll be fine.

I think my issue is that I'm on a VPN all the time, it confuses the AI and so I get the top 10 hits of crazy of whichever country of choice the VPN is connected to for the day. Just a theory...

It would depend how you use twitter and what for.

If you stick to the timeline of just the accounts you follow, you are less likely to see anything other than what you want. However, if you search for particular topics and/or hashtags you will most definitely see an absolute shitfest of hate and fake news

There are many ways to use twitter, different people, different approaches

This definitely.  I only followed friends, internet friends, nature photographers, and some cricket and sports and music people really, but I think through clicking on tweets posted here, or whatever, I ended up getting a timeline with a load of unwanted and sometimes nasty stuff in it. I used to block and mute loads, but decided when Musk took it over to bin it off, as more trouble than it was worth.  No regrets.

Yeah, I just use ‘following’ I don’t use ‘for you’ or any search tags etc.. I also don’t follow thousands of accounts.

If someone is retweeting stuff I’m not in to I’ll unfollow them.

But I do also have a couple of accounts I follow that would be outside my bubble of beliefs so I know how some other people think. But even those have to play nice, or they’re gone.

I’m a pretty simple soul.

It depends a lot on what topics you follow. Some topics are relatively clear of nutters and spam, but plenty of interesting topics (eg Russia/Ukraine) have degraded badly since Musk took over.

I used to think as you do that with a bit of effort you can make Twitter quite good, but I think for most of us it has got noticeably worse.

Christ, he's jumping in on the Dilbert racism thing now. I'm beginning to think he just sees value in posting deliberately controversial things.

Don't think his solitary account generating millions of responses is going to keep twitter alive.

Loving Chris Williamson's new twitter tag. Talking about democracy while working for the most fundamentalist regime in the world. Talk about hypocrite.

In fact I think it's time to give Chris and George's friend JC his own tag, and Mark Wadsworth, Milne and the other shills too. There's some fairly epic responses to his tweet, if you'd like a laugh.

Quite enjoyed this. We've all worked with some bullshit merchant who storms in, doesn't understand anything and assumes everyone else was an idiot and the project needs to be started again. Usually they don't get to run the company.

Hours later, they accidentally blocked their own website from using their API. It's almost like you shouldn't alienate all of your best employees leaving your company in the hands of less experienced and demotivated people who can't find a better job.
