Made In Aston
8 minutes ago, imavillan said: John Percy has written a pretty good article about it. clicky clicky Unai Emery can be Aston Villa’s Sir Alex Ferguson – instead of following him A one-year option will keep Emery at Villa Park until 2027 as the club eyes to built on its astounding progress over last 18 months Unai Emery is on the brink of leading Aston Villa to the Champions League and will now be asked to build a legacy to become the club’s version of Sir Alex Ferguson. Emery has triggered a one-year option to his current contract until 2027 as ambitious owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens move to keep the highly-rated Basque coach at Villa Park. Sawiris and Edens have driven the decision to discuss new terms with Emery, with further negotiations planned for the summer over a lucrative, long-term deal. NSWE want to offer Emery the platform to lead the club towards an even brighter future, with regular excursions in the Champions League regarded as just the start. The huge commitment to Emery is viewed as essential and deserved, after a remarkable transformation in 18 months. Suggests that it was an extension option on his existing contract rather than a brand new one. Makes sense to announce it now, as speculation on summer managerial vacancies is ramping up, and Emery won't want the distraction of media speculation about his job affecting the players. Sounds like he will get a brand new deal in the summer, which will no doubt come with a pay rise and maybe a (formal) increase in his responsibilities.

duke313
The timing of the contract announcement is no coincidence, with Liverpool, United, Bayern, Barca and possibly Milan and Juve all looking for managers this summer.

Popular Post UpTheVilla26
I think it's time, as Villa fans, we woke up to the fact we need to stop shitting the bed anytime we have something good going. Our owners are brilliant. They are clever, shrewd and above all have massive ambition. I honestly believe they won't rest until we have won something major. Unai was always going to be linked to other jobs. What he's done here is frankly, astonishing. But he's not done it alone, the players have brought into his ideas and way of playing, us fans have been fully behind him and he's got the full backing of our owners. It's a delicious recipe. The media need to realise their darling big 6 no longer exist and get their heads around the fact that as a club and fans, we deserve to have a top manager, world class players and trophies in the cabinet. I'm loving every second of it all 🩵

Utter genius. it must give him great pleasure inwardly....but he is not one to gloat, it's not in his nature....and another inner strength he has. Gloating can set yourself up, for attack....why give opponents ammunition? Sometimes, the least said, the more powerful the outcome. He is an intelligent guy, he knows what to say, when to say it, and when to say nothing....He is a diplomat. The silence can sometimes be the loudest response. Can't run their daily "why Emery will leave Villa for a big club" phone in today. They'll restart it tomorrow. To be fair I've seen more of the people on Talksport explain why Emery won't leave Villa when fans of other clubs have phoned in and mentioned how he should be top of their club's shopping list. Simon Jordan has said multiple times that Emery doesn't just have the manager job at Villa and that he's got a unique position that other clubs just can't offer. I think Jordan was one of the first "outsiders" to really get what NSWE are trying to do; to understand their ambition, determination to succeed, prior business success and wealth; he's understood the role that Emery has; he's got why Monchi was an important addition and he's explained the challenges that we will have breaking the strangehold of the Top 6 (which aren't that Emery / Monchi will get poached, that NSWE won't back them or that players aren't 100% bought into how Emery makes them better - but are about how entrenched the Top 6 are in terms of the protection that FFP gives them and the advantage they got of exploiting the money pre-FFP which clubs now can't do). He's a bit up himself and I think he's way off on some of his ideas / beliefs - but I think he's had a good grasp at what is happening here for a while.
