Some did, but a lot didn't - there was all sorts posted in the player threads about "lacking spirit...bottlers...mentally weak" and so on, and various players were said to be "not good enough" and all that. So what Emery has done has (thankfully) shown those kinds of comments to be nonsense. By bringing in clarity, tactical astuteness, a clear framework of how to approach each game and all the other good work he's done, he has not just improved individuals level of perfomance and the team's level of performance, but he's also perhaps educated supporters that the players are not all the things that got thrown at them by some. Human beings are still human beings, and they (we) need hope and clarity and stuff like that, but the game is completely different to what it was even 10 years ago. "Desire and fight and want it more" are no longer the key things (if they ever were), instead the tactical and strategic set up and aims are the things that make the difference. Positioning, intelligence and structured movement of players (and countering that from the opposition) is much more a key part, and it's something that we've seen Emery is very, very good at. Emery is the first manager we've ever had that is that way. Previous managers in this or any other era haven't had that, or going back further, it wasn't a part of the game and they didn't need that.

CVByrne
I do think he/we might struggle a bit if we've got Europe and Premier League next season. Less time to focus a game plan for the opposition when players are playing 2 games a week

There's at least another 4 hours a day there he can squeeze in if he needs to.

European football tends to be played at a lower pace, and if you look at us under Emery then you'll see, Newcastle game and possibly Leicester apart, we've tended to play at a lower european pace and a style of football suited to the European stage. We'll also recruit with the extra competition and games in mind.

ender4
From the press conference: "Myself as well, i cannot stop, i cannot relax and i have to be the same coach coaching each match, training for each match, analysing each match like i was 5 months ago, like two weeks ago when we went to Chelsea". Popular Post Don_Simon
In the Michael Calvin BT Sport podcast with Tyrone, released today, Ty is asked "where can Unai Emery take this Aston Villa team?". Ty's response? "Anywhere he wants, there's no limit". Inject this into my veins.

He also said the Newcastle performance was the best since he's been here, but it wasn't enough. Imagine smashing the best defense in the league, and then saying it could be better What a man.

Popular Post BleedClaretAndBlue
Just watched the press conference. He’s just a remarkably fascinating bloke. So polite, with an elite mentality. Thoughtful and grounded. He just comes across so well, he knows the formula for success and thankfully the team are all listening carefully. He goes back to the Chelsea and Leicester away games and puts across that we didnt control those games and you can see thats not good enough for him. Amazing manager and coach, he’s been well worth the wait. 9
Don_Simon
Where do people watch his press conferences?! I can't find it on YouTube. AVTV is **** useless. I'd love to see The Maestro in action, but don't know where to find him!
Tomaszk
He's basically demanding what I've always said is impossible for us. Absolute consistency. You do need a certain level of player, but you can tell he wasn't happy with the Forest match. The Leicester match away. Obviously, the Leicester match at home. Like so so many times down the years, if the players drop a stinker v Brentford having shown some of their best form only the week before, they're getting it from the boss. He will not stand for it. 1
