Sulberto21
If he carries on with his current league win percentage we’ll have the league sewn up by April. 1
Zhan_Zhuang
To think where we might be in the league if Emery arrived a little earlier. Top eight, top six? I'd really hope Emery makes Villa a tough opponent on a consistent basis, winning at home, beating teams we should be beating such as Bournemouth, Forest etc. And taking points away from home. There seems to be a top seven forming in the PL yet one of them or maybe two can be caught. Chelsea seem hit and miss, Brighton will likely drop out, the race for top eight is surely on. StanBalaban
I've only just clocked that 50% of our points this season have come from the last 4 games. Mental.

CVByrne
I think the fact he is happy changing the team for specific games and game plans. That he uses all 5 subs too means he will utilise a squad very well. McGinn captain when he starts and Martinez when he doesn't. Sticking with that for the season seems fine to me. Zatman
Players deserve credit too for quickly buying into his ideas compared to the Garde reign(can't believe was actually comparisons on here ). Some especially in the media tried to spin we had some bad eggs but in reality they just wanted to work with a natural winner
Vive_La_Villa
Im absolutely delighted with his start but I do think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves. Don’t forget Gerrard had us winning 4 of his first 6 games. We cant deny the new manager bounce is a thing.

I can't get over the clear change of style so quickly. Winning at Brighton with that XI is out of this world.

I actually thought we looked really good in Gerrards first 2 games and the tactics/tweaks made worked well. But yes I get the two managers are worlds apart. I just hope the fans stay grounded if we go on little bit of bad form and remember Unai is the real deal and here for the long term. I’m sure the majority will.
Popular Post Chindie Posted November 15, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted November 15, 2022 If it is just a new manager bounce (and I don't think it is, he's actually changed the nature of the side pretty much instantly with simple ideas done well), it would be contrary to his record as a manager if we fell off a cliff. I suspect he's the real deal. A good manager. That rarest of things at Villa Park.
Popular Post CVByrne
I think it's fair to say new manager bounce is a thing. There are two big differences with Gerrard though. I'm sure the players are as dedicated to the managers ideas under Emery as they were with Gerrard and Beale in their first 6 months at Villa. There are two big differences for me. Firstly is Emery focuses on setting up the team in a way that best suits the players we have. Gerrard wanted to implement his system and buy players to fit it. This is exactly what Klopp and Arteta have done so it's not a stick to beat Gerrard with. The issues with what Gerrard wanted to do were the system he wanted to play was flawed and was too similar to how Liverpool play. It was compromising players too much. A system that relies on Cash getting forward in attack while Ramsey defends the full back position is clearly not getting the best out of either player. Emery is adaptable. His 4 4 2 / 4 2 2 2 is very similar to a 4 2 3 1 depending on the players used. So it's easy for the double pivot and back 4 to be comfortable and defensively solid. So the base setup is stable. The attacking play involves 4 players and a full back joining in. Same as a 4 2 3 1. Emery also has the experience to rely upon and an adaptable nature means he will keep changing and it means we hopefully are harder to predict
