He doesn't have that problem at Villa, we've been shit for years. He can build his own legacy here and not have to listen to any "but so and so will be a hard act to follow" bullshit. We'll get the real Unai What do you mean? He has to follow Steven Gerrard who everyone and their dog says should have been given more time. Tough act to follow especially that win percentage.

I mean what actually happened? Because he started well finishing 5th and reaching an Europa League final. Arsenal fans got it in their head that Wenger was holding them back from regularly challenging for league titles and trophies. They also expected "exciting and progressive" football in addition to immediate results. Emery got a lot of points his first season, but was also criticized by their fans for being "too pragmatic" with his tactical approach and was slated for being more concerned about disrupting the opposition instead of taking the game to their opponents. He also was blamed for a lot of poor signings during his time in charge, even though that tune has changed since and there is a lot of blame pointed at their former Director of Football. Arteta also showed the following season that there were a lot of knuckleheads in the dressing room and needed to get rid of the bad apples at huge losses in order to move the squad forward. To be honest, that run of games which got him the sack wasn't even that bad on paper... 5 draws and 2 losses isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things, but the biggest issue which caused the fans to turn on him quickly is the way the media treated him. They made him out to be a bumbling idiot who "can't even speak English, let alone coach football". Whatever... The move to trade him in for Arteta is clearly working out for them and Emery worked miracles at Villarreal on a shoestring budget, so he's bounced back as well. We've seen enough of Emery in his first 3 games in charge to know that he is a class apart from all our other managers in recent history and NSWE clearly made the right call with appointing him our manager. We'll win something under his leadership in the next 5 years. I can feel it.

Honestly I think winning that FA cup bought him a lot of time because they had some shocking periods under Arteta in the first 2 years.

I saw a quote saying he wanted to change certain things at arsenal and the hierarchy wouldn't let him. However under arteta they have since changed the things emery originally requested. Maybe emery became frustrated and let it affect his performance. He says he learnt from the experience at arsenal, so let's hope he acts differently if he gets in the same situation here. I pretty much think the owners will let him do what he wants, Looking at the recruitment of him. Cannot see it being an issue here

Can just imagine Cash absolutely perplexed during the video training sessions. Lovely lad, but got the impression he won't be going into managing after his career's done. I did notice during the Brighton game Cash begging McGinn to drop into midfield to cut off the pass when the ball was switched out wide. Goes to show the understanding Unai has gotten across in just a few weeks. Under Gerrard, Cash would be constantly exposed out wide and was caught between coming and going and often going and leaving a gaping hole between him and Konsa or whoever the CB was. Understood his role more against Brighton and let them have the ball on the wing to make it more difficult to penetrate the back line. Cover the run between fullback and center back and give McGinn and/or Ramsay or Young time to come back and defend the wide person. dudevillaisnice
MOTD2 made a point of showing how well drilled we were to hold on to the lead. 2 weeks in and already you can tell what he is trying to achieve.
