If Chelsea pass over Poch then that shows the CL clubs are going to overlook him until he proves himself again building up club like he did v Spurs. I did read somewhere Sevilla were potentially looking at him if they sack Lopetegui so we can't really afford to wait much longer if we want to appoint a top class proven manager as next one. Or appoint Lopetegui? Europa League winning manager.

Not surprised if the reported compensation is 16m is true. Add compo to SG and his backroom team and compo for Potter's backroom team and wages for Potter and it would cost about 30m to swap SG for Potter Edited September 7, 2022 by Peter Griffin Fixed a typo

Said that yesterday, maybe by some miracle he does turn it around. Unless Steven has us rooted in the relegation zone just give him the season. That way when we sack him the first day into the off-season there will be no question it was the right choice.

Consider it started. In all seriousness of course that could be the case, but surely you try and do something about the situation rather than continuing on the same path. That path being relegation 1

It not a case of first come first served Oh we absolutely did. We should have at least made him the priority. If he said no then fine off we goto Rangers to sign the boy wonder. The fact that Steven was the main option from the day we sacked Smith is just depressing.
VillaParkAvenue
The current odds for the next Chelsea manager is a nice overview of the market. Graham Potter 1/4 Mauricio Pochettino 9/2 Zinedine Zidane 10/1 Brendan Rodgers 14/1 Diego Simeone 25/1 Jose Mourinho 25/1 Massimiliano Allegri 25/1 Ange Postecoglou 28/1 Roberto Mancini 33/1 Roberto Martinez 33/1 Roger Schmidt 33/1 Thomas Frank 33/1 Gareth Southgate 40/1 Gregg Berhalter 40/1 Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink 40/1 Lucien Favre 40/1 Marcelo Bielsa 40/1 Scott Parker 40/1 Sean Dyche 40/1 Frank Lampard 50/1 Jorge Sampaoli 50/1 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 50/1 Antonio Conte 66/1 Jesse Marsch 66/1 John Terry 66/1 Emma Hayes 80/1 Chris Wilder 100/1 Mark Hughes 100/
IrishVilla10
When you look at the league table and the strength of most of the teams in the league this must be the most competitive season ever. Forrest speak for themselves with their manager and signings, Fulham also look very good, apart from Bournemouth there’s not really any weak teams that stand out. The risk of relegation is very real and that shouldn’t be what we’re discussing four seasons after coming up
JAMAICAN-VILLAN
I've rarely seen Unai Emery mentioned as an option Wasn't brilliant at Arsenal, but also wasn't necessarily afforded the time. See this is the thing, as a few others have mentioned... There is no guarantee any Manager hits the ground running. Potter won't necessarily hit the ground running at Chelsea either.

Mark Albrighton Posted September 7, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted September 7, 2022 (edited) We’re not likely going to know for definite. But my take is Gerrard was pretty much number one choice. My guess is IF we enquired about Potter, the conversation ended shortly after the proposed compensation was mentioned, and probably cementing Purslow’s view that Gerrard was the one to go for. Also I think if we had seriously gone for Potter, there would be a bit more evidence on the rumour mill. As a comparison, people now seem to take the link to Henry as being factual (I’m still a little sceptical) and there was more coverage of that suggested appointment than I saw of Potter coming to us last year. Emery was offered the Toon job and refused it, I believe that is public record as opposed to hearsay. He is a good manager but his teams play dirty football.
