Then we have one maybe more difficult game against spurs, depending on which spurs turn up, and then a final game against them. I'm not saying we should ignore them, or that we'll definitely finish above them, but the doom and gloom because they beat a Wolves team that were relegation candidates until last week is bizarre. In fairness, I don't see it as " doom " by any stretch of the imagination lol. I've maintained for ages that 8th would be an outstanding season, based on where we have come from. I've also been consistent with my view to many ignoring the likes of Brighton, Liverpool and Tottenham way before today. The only people who may see it as " doom " are people who have set their bar way too high in the first place. Never too high with the highs or too low with the lows and all that. All of us agree that we have done an outstanding job since Emery has come in, but the combination of coming from way behind, a limited squad, and teams in and around us picking up from/having games in hand might make a certain finish a step too far. That is no fault of the manager of the effort of the players, or anything to be " gloomy " about in the grand scheme. I'd prefer to be tempered and realistic, and then be pleasantly surprised. I reiterate, Unai Emery continues to destroy obstacles week by week. If he got a fair start, on this form, we'd likely be solidified in the top 5/6 by now! AvonVillain
As brilliantly as we've done to even be in contention, we really have to turn it on now to secure Europe.

Not about me and negativity, It's a new dawn, everything is positive under Emery. #mentalityshift It’s definitely a new dawn. But it’s not some kind of new normal for us to win almost every game. This winning run will end and some may feel deflated when it does (I will too, for a little while). On a positive note, I’m fully convinced we’ll have a really good season 23/24 with some reinforcements, and hopefully get Europe then, if not now.

That might be behind my pessimism for the result. Is Emery really going to break Villa's 'not quite good enough' streak running for years?? Shouldn’t be disappointed with 8th, but it will feel disappointing! @JAMAICAN-VILLAN these are the overreaction that triggered my comment. All because they hammered a rubbish Wolves side with absolutely nothing to play for. If they beat United in their next game that would be a marker, although even that wouldn't be a huge shock. United are rubbish away from home. Their games against City, Arsenal and Newcastle decide our fate.
villan-scott Posted April 29, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted April 29, 2023 Yeah not sure where all the bed wetting is coming from. They were always likely to beat Wolves. Them losing to Forest was a bonus. They’ve much tougher games to come. Nothing much has changed in our race for Europe by then beating Wolves.

They've had an outstanding season and we're playing catch up. We've had alot of fortune with results going our way recently...its a nice distraction but the focus should be on ourselves maximising the games we have left. We all know Unai will have done all the prep he can possibly do for tomorrow and now it's down to the players to execute the plan and demonstrate again they can rattle the big boys. Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted April 29, 2023 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted April 29, 2023 It's not really bedwetting to think we're competing for 7th. We are. We're in a four team group with Liverpool, Spurs and Brighton in a contest where the top three win. Liverpool are favourites in that group and we're the outsider with the bookies. 7th would be great and it would have been brilliant if an in form Wolves side who've been playing well over the last few weeks had done us a favour and taken a point out of a Brighton side who looked a little vulnerable going into the game - they look less vulnerable now - similarly, Spurs rescuing a point against United in the week is a setback, it'll give them renewed confidence. We've had a couple of results go against us in the group, I remain hopeful we can do enough to not finish 8th, but we're going to need other teams to lose games as well as playing well ourselves. I think we'll finish with around 61 or 62 points and I really hope that's enough. Our run-in is the toughest of those of the teams involved and we're going to need all the help we can get - it's all very well saying it's in our hands, but those hands are very, very full - we have some very difficult games. If United had held on, or Wolves had grabbed a point, our chances would have been better than they are now. I don't feel that's an overreaction. 8
omariqy
Our squad is also stretched to the max. I believe we will get 7th but I'll still be proud if we end up 8th.

That just leaves Wolves that I think we'll beat. I'm not trolling, I've just seen all this before — people said the same shit the year we missed out on CL under O'Neill, that we were in great form, it was all in our hands and there's no way we'd throw it away, and then the teams around us went on unbelievable runs and we began to struggle against their quality. It's the Villa way. Luck is never on our side, and when given control over our own destiny, we promptly cock it up. You'd never guess you were talking about a team that picked up 26 points out of the last 30.

I think it normal to be insecure and fragile, when you consider how Villa have performed the last few decades. It will take some time before fans will catch up to the performance of Emery’s Villa, and not expect Villa of the past. I believe it is possible to win tomorrow and next weekend and so on, not going to be easy, but if anybody can do it, it is Emery. Unlike from the past, now we can dream of going places with Villa, getting into Europe, not automatically doomed when playing Sky6, and maybe even start next season with double figured points after 11 matches
