villaslash
We are going to be in London for half a week and wondering what are some of your favorite London Indian restaurants? We love Indian food and will take suggestions of any kind. We are usually able to get a fairly good Northern Indian cuisine where we live so would love it if anyone has great Southern Indian, street style food/chaat or Rajasthani suggestions as well. thanks in advance-cheers! chrisp65
No great knowledge here, but somewhere that is solid and not flash is The Agra It’s small, lovely, central, close to the tube and the prices don’t reflect the location.
Morley_crosses_to_Withe
Not Southern Indian but some of my shouts would be: Kricket. This is good for causal dining and it has a large seating counter. It's more of a modern take on Indian cuisine but the food is great and it's got a lively atmosphere. Go to the sister bar next door called Somo for a few cocktails. https://somasoho.com https://kricket.co.uk/soho/ Tayyabs. https://www.tayyabs.co.uk This is over in East London. It's been around for decades and remains popular. It's rustic with no frills, but I don't know anyone who's been there that didn't enjoy the food. Dishoom https://www.dishoom.com This is very popular so they've now got a number of locations. It depends where you're staying but I'd try one of either Carnaby St/Kingly Street, Covent Garden or Shoreditch. I like the one on Kingly Street. You should also definitely have a look in Kingly Court if you go that way.
tomav84 Posted June 6, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted June 6, 2022 dishoom as previously mentioned can't vouch for it but heard good things about mowgli
omariqy
If you want authentic then head over to Whitechapel way I would say. Tayyabs is your best bet although I have not been for a few years. Lahore Kebab House is similar but it's a mad house. Needo's is also good - I think the old Tayyabs chef went and started this up. If you want slightly more refined then dishoom or tamarind
villaslash
Thanks so much for the suggestions thus far! Really appreciate it. We are staying near Hyde Park but traveling all over the place so all these locations are great.
The_Rev
Worked in London for 20 years, I'll throw a shout out to Rajdoot on Paddington Street in Marylebone. Nearest tubes are Baker Street & Bond Street.

Demitri_C
I can also vouch for tayyabs in white chapel. Their lamb chops are incredible. Excellent food.
Rds1983 Posted June 10, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted June 10, 2022 Go to King's Cross Station, get a train to Leeds, transfer across to Bradford and pick any curry house at random.
villaslash
Thanks for all the recommendations. We ate at Dishoom’s before a show at the Wyndham right next door.. Food was great and fun vibe. I’ve never seen a line a block long for an Indian restaurant. Thankfully had reservations. We also ate at Sagar earlier in the week for some Southern Indian and it was excellent. cheers- thanks. Hobsons Choice Posted July 8, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted July 8, 2022 I know you were talking about that London, but I don't suppose anyone knows of any decent south Indian food in the West Midlands? There used to be a Dosa joint on the Hagley Road, but I'm hoping for one a little further toward the Black Country.
