Woody1000
Would be a very good signing, definitely would add real quality to our back line.
duke313
Can't see this and Tarkowski, if we sign both, Mings is gone I reckon.
Popular Post tomav84 Posted May 25, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted May 25, 2022 Full article for those that don't have the athletic Quote Aston Villa are exploring the possibility of signing Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos in the summer transfer window, The Athletic has learned. Villa manager Steven Gerrard is looking to strengthen his defensive options and Carlos is thought to be among those under consideration. The 29-year-old has been a key man for Sevilla since moving from Nantes in 2019, helping the Spanish club win the Europa League in 2020 and qualify for next season’s Champions League. Carlos — an Olympic gold medallist with Brazil at the Tokyo Games — has two years left on his terms and attracted interest during the January market from sides including Newcastle United. He is recognised by Villa as being one of Europe’s leading operators in his position, although they might need to free up space in the squad through departures before adding to Gerrard’s resources. The potential asking price and salary for Carlos may also prove a complication, which is why Villa are sure to be looking at various opportunities. Gerrard has held internal talks about bolstering his rearguard for some time and James Tarkowski of relegated Burnley is another prominent candidate. The 29-year-old Englishman is out of contract shortly and will be available on a free transfer. Villa have already been active in preparation for the summer transfer window opening on June 10. Earlier this month they announced an agreement to sign the former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho on a permanent basis from Barcelona. He will be joined at Villa Park by Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer. 1
CVByrne
Expensive deal to complete. I assume Tarkowski is first choice as he wants his future sorted in next week or two before he goes on holiday. So if we fail to get him we look at other options. Diego Carlos is a fantastic player but will cost us £30m+
Rustibrooks
It might sound stupid but out of Tarkowski, Carlos and Botman who would suit us the most?

We act with conviction when we go after players.

Botman is seen as a relatively traditional CB, big strong solid defender so maybe his type is not that different from Tarkowski. Carlos would add something more IMO in terms of playing ability. I agree Carlos and Botman would be ideal but getting both may be unrealistic.

Think certain fans' heads would explode if you partnered him with Mings. 2
The_Steve
I do believe we are in for a big centre back signing. He’d fit the bill for sure.

He is a bit of a liability though did wind up United fans so maybe held against hom Brazil arent exactly blessed with a lot of centre backs at the peak. Still had two 37 year olds in recent squads

I’ve never heard anyone say he is that good, I think a few on here just want so sing him based on his cool name and price tag, without actually knowing much about the player, Lucas Dinge was deemed to old at the grand age of 28 when we signed him, but Diego Carlos at 29 is great business apparently.

And Brad Friedel was deemed an acceptable age when he was pushing 40, but no one wants to sign my cousin Steve to play in midfield. Typical double standards.
