maqroll
A popular magazine's explanation of their choice for best album of 2014 (U2): "Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. put their lives on the line: giving away 11 songs of guitar rapture and frank, emotional tales of how they became a band out of the rough streets and spiritual ferment of Seventies Dublin."

CarewsEyebrowDesigner
Ah. Their best writing has been on politics/current affairs for a long time now. Although Peter Travers is a decent film critic. Music wise though, a bit like the NME, it's irrelevant. Mainly because, as we all know, Taylor Swift's 1989 was by far the best album of the year. bickster Posted December 2, 2014 Moderator Share Posted December 2, 2014 anyone like REM? very popular band but never done it for me although i like the odd number.Me, fan from the first album. All albums up to and including Automatic for the People are great, they then begin to tail off quality wise but still produce some great songs after.Finished their career at about the right time, possibly a couple of albums too late

Stevo985 Posted December 3, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted December 3, 2014 (edited) It took me a long time to realise Pearl Jam wasn't a fictional band made up by Clarissa Edited December 3, 2014 by Stevo985

dAVe80
Loved the first four REM albums, lost interest after that. Yeah, the albums recorded on I.R.S. Records are great. Murmur is probably my favourite of theirs.
maqroll
Never liked them, they always sounded like a pretentious college band to me. Maybe it was that their fans were also pretentious college types too that put me off.

donnie
The Who - Load of shite (other than baba o'riley). Jay Z - Should never be considered as an ATG hip hop artist. Cringey to hear people say that. Example - dont know if he is rated or not but all I know is that his music is awful. Music is awful these days. Hip Hop is DEAD which is sad. Rock today is aimed at the skinny jean, emo beta males. Dance music is nothing on the 90's stuff, and drum n bass is not as good as it was in the 00's. chrisp65
They always seemed quite middle of the road to me. Though as Gruf Rhys points out at his gigs, that's a very dangerous place to be.
mjmooney Posted December 3, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted December 3, 2014 Donnie is hereby marked for assassination. The Who are The Greatest Rock'n'Roll Band In The World. Saw them (for the 4th time in 41 years) last night.
