The rising cost of living

Just last week I checked how long the cost of my morning toast from Phillpotts had been £2.05.  The answer was over 12 months, so no inflation in 12 months.

Today I ordered my 2 slices of toast and £1.80 rang up.  When I queried this she said the price had gone down because their costs had fallen.

So are we seeing deflation kicking in for food prices?

Personally I think it's probably more like McDonalds who have also had to have a look at their pricing because sales have fallen as people no longer see them as a cheap meal.  But whatever the reasons it's good news for consumers.

So about 2 weeks after I wrote this the toast went up to £1.90 prompting me to think they'd actually made a error.

Now it's up again to £2.  Still less than it's been in recent history but a long way from the gain I thought I was making 😂

I was in Solihull on Saturday night. It's gone downhill.

Anyway, we found ourselves in Wetherspoons. One of the pints was £1.94

My round cost me £9. I'd be happy spending that on one drink on a normal night out

Anyway it was the worst pint I've had in my life and the place was a dive and I couldn't wait to leave. But still

I presume you've not been to the spoons in West brom town centre  ?

Takes grim to a new level, in particular the clientèle

I've been to that one in Bilston where a man went into it with a horse a couple of years ago.

That's sure an interesting place.

My daughter works at Wetherspoons in Solihull and loves it much to my surprise.

I've only been in to drop her off her key fob that she'd left at home.  I don't make a habit of visiting Wetherspoons but it did seem one of the better ones to me.

They apparently get more students than tramps in there.

I worked in West Brom for a number of years and went into the spoons twice. It is the grimmest pub I have ever been in. Awful place.

Snob ;)

You need to do the Brum city centre spoonathon. All six Wetherspoons in a row.

£2 for toast makes Blandys chips seem cheap :D

£2 for mine or £1.50 cash and the taxman doesn't find out :D
