Popular Post useless
It seems like there's a big recency bias type thing going on, if we'd have made our signings in the last few weeks there would be no complaints about our window, rather oppositely there would be a lot of excitement, and there would be less suggestions that the teams around us have had better windows, people only saying other teams have had better windows now because their signings are more recent so there's still more general hype around them, whereas the hype around our signings has died down.

It was very sensible to integrate new signings and young players on the Australian tour. We have a clear strategy in mind and delivered it. And we still have weeks to go. Don’t rule anything out, especially when we had been written off as signing the likes of Coutinho and Kamara

But no doubt they'll say the club tried but just couldn't get the players, when there's absolutely no evidence that that has happened. Whereas there’s a plethora of evidence that the club have given up, right?

People are of the opinion that Kamara signed for us because Gerrard went to his home and convinced him to join, he's implying that Smith would not have had this pull had he arrived at Kamara's house if he was still the manager at that time. The_Steve
“Especially when it comes from Steven Gerrard, one of the best midfielders in the world in his position. It leaned in my decision. I can’t wait to join him.” Gerrard has no pull though. Next.
It's Your Round
I don’t believe Gerrard will ultimately be good enough to get Villa where we want to be. However he definitely has an appeal to players, they respect what he’s done in the game and they revere him for it. I don’t know whether that respect will endure as his management career develops, it will all depend on his success. Steven Gerrard the player is where most of his reputation is coming from right now, he needs to replicate some of that as manager. He won a league title at Rangers, that’s a start, but getting Villa back in Europe is where it’s at now. That will be his marker. We have smashed our pay structure these last 2 windows Grealish signed a new contract a year before he left, the precedent had been set then. Yes, there are probably now more individuals on higher wages. If we aspire to be in Europe unfortunately we have to pay the wages. Kamara wouldn’t have signed for a s as mall amount as there was loads of interest in him.

We've barely made any signings mate. We've literally added 2 first team players to a team that finished 14th and one of them is out for the season. Ergo, we are one player stronger than we were last season. Wolves had added three first team players to a team that finished 10th, West Ham have similarly added 3 first team players to a team that finished 7th. Newcastle have only added 2 like us but at least one of theirs hasn't got injured and there are many signs they are actively still looking to strengthen unlike us. They again also finished higher than us last season. The only sides to have had poorer windows than us that finished above us last season are Leicester and Brighton. I'm surprised at the level of positivity in this thread in all honesty, if we had had such a strong window and were so much better than last season then why are so many posters predicting we'll lose on Saturday to an average Crystal Palace team?

Plus it ignores how with each year in the league we are in a much better financial position to offer such wages - even without the recent sales. It’s why we are competing for higher level transfers that what we got with the first window we had following promotion. People can’t shift the goalposts constantly because they don’t like the manager.

They all talk bollocks in the club interviews, pre scripted sound bites. Gerrard is presumably a bigger pull than someone like Smith, but let’s not get carried away he’s no Klopp or Guardiola and players aren’t signing for villa just to work for him, with the exception of Coutinho who’s his mate which seems like an excellent one off
