It's not about the signings that have come before, which I was happy with and gave credit to the owners (though I did think they were a bit short term - Carlos, Digne and Coutinho are all 29/30 and coming to the end of their careers). I know we've come a long way, that's why I'm frustrated and p*ssed off that we seem to be taking a backwards step after finishing in a very disappointing 14th place last season. Also, out of those signings you list, Carlos is out for the season and may never get back to his form of before and Coutinho and Digne have arguably been more disappointing than really taken us forwards and are probably going to regress now given their age. Only Kamara has actually looked to have really improved us. You also fail to mention that we earned 100m from selling an Academy player, plus 20m from another Academy player, and signing those four players for a combined 68m means we are still 50m in profit. This excuse that we have to be sustainable and can't spend any more money despite having a very weak CM and an injury to a new signing at CB clearly doesn't add up. Also, you list all the quality players we have signed, look at who Wolves or Leeds have signed since promotion despite having less wealthy owners than us, being smaller clubs traditionally, and spending God knows how long down in the lower divisions, far longer than we ever did. We're not a unique case yet our fans seem to think that everything is hunky dory all the friggin time because we nearly went bankrupt a few years ago and we're ever so lucky. That was then, this is now, stop harping on about the past! Sorry but suggesting players who aren’t even 30 are coming to the ‘end of their careers’ is hyperbole at best. If they stay fit, we can get many years out of them.

It's down to SG and the board to make the right choices, whether that be through selection or signing. Losing Van Dijk 100 percent affected Pool though! Of course but I think is a lot of excuses from people at the moment about lowering expectations at every turn Similar to the ones complaining the season before last we didnt qualify for Europe with a shitter squad Not yourself I will add

HalfTimePost
We have a plan. The plan: to scramble together a makeshift plan. We may do a loan, we may do a purchase, we may do nothing. But the plan is concrete

We won’t however make a high profile signing of another CB but instead look for a loan or a cheaper option. It also says the CB issue makes it less likely we’ll sign another midfielder. The player can come in knowing he'll likely get game time in Carlos' absence, but won't be stuck here permanently as back up when Carlos returns. An in the event the player excels, we can sell Mings, Konsa or Chambers next summer and activate the option to buy clause. Depending on funds, I would go all out for Lacroix, Nianzou etc.

Digne and Coutinho came in January and we finished 14th with them. Improvement in the starting XI was needed this window, we signed Carlos and Kamara for that, and now one is out for the season. We are currently one player off from the same starting XI of last season, that's the issue people have. But we still have the Jan window to come. If u are including last Jan's purchases in last year's squad then for consistency should we not be waiting till the end of the next Jan window to have a fair comparison? But the plan is concrete I would imagine we do in fact have a plan, it's just that Gregg Evans isn't privy to it, so he's had to guess, which seems to be the sum total of his job. I'd be very very surprised if Lange doesn't have a long list of potential candidates in various price ranges, because you know, it's his job, and he seems to be pretty good at it. Very few transfers are straight forward though, so it might take a little while before we hear anything.

We’ve got plenty of time to bring anyone in.

VillaParkAvenue
The best part of the Athletic article was when Gregg praised Villa for being decisive in similar situations before, bringing in the likes of Samatta and Drinkwater.
