Unfortunately, the rest of his game isn't at the same level. The funny thing is that if AEG was in the squad and participating in pre season Gerrard would be getting a bashing for not addressing that weakness in our squad or not using the newer more talented players that the club has invested in. I have nothing against AEG, he was perfect for us at the time we needed and he helped us win promotion and stay in the PL and I am very grateful. I assume he is also grateful for the 6m+ we have paid him during that period too. But it is now time to move on.
Peter Griffin
Cucurella in advanced talks with Chelsea. Losing him and Bissouma in the same window is a big loss of quality and their man to find these players is no longer with the club to help replace them. Is that one less team to worry about next season

Hank Scorpio
I am thinking we are going with what we have bar a few outgoings, on loan as usual. Let's see how that goes.

Yeah, I can see the bottom 6/7 for most the season as Bournemouth, Fulham, Forest, Brighton, Everton, Leeds and Everton

But now we have moved on. The same should hopefully happen to others. Still respect what they did and thankful for what they did. But their time has passed. 2 minutes ago, Peter Griffin said: Cucurella in advanced talks with Chelsea. Is that one less team to worry about next season It does seem that other teams are struggling this pre-season. Brighton and Leicester seem to be weaker. A couple of others not really progressed. In some ways that makes it more frustrating because there is a big opportunity here to really break the mid-table into two or three (best of the rest fight v comfortable v too good to be in the relegation battle). Popular Post KMitch
Personally, I'm very happy with our business this summer. I don't rate his performance on the pitch so far, but Gerrard's strength seems to be pulling off coups in the transfer market and once again we've had a brilliant window. Coutinho - Signing him on a permanent deal at a fraction of his wages at Barca was a masterstroke Olsen - Looked really solid in preseason compared to his appearances last season Kamara - We beat off a lot of competition to sign the best CDM available in Europe this summer... For free no less Diego Carlos - Looks like a better version of Mings and the Prem will suit his playstyle better than La Liga Augustinsson - Making a profit off of Targett and replacing him with a player better than him on paper for a fraction of the cost is more good business Young - Played too big of a role last season, IMO, but with the expanded sub role and additional reinforcements to the squad, I'm happy to keep him around for another year Everyone is crying about not signing anther CM and striker is forgetting we have a bunch of highly rated youngsters in both positions who will have extended minutes due to the additional subs allowed this season. Ramsey, Carney, Timmy, & Archer will all be in the first team this season. 8

He will be getting zero minutes as he will almost inevitably be leaving one way or another, so it probably does exasperbate needing a midfielder. I could be wrong but I don't think Chilwell has played a game since his injury. After coming back from an ACL there will be a lot of nervousness and uncertainty. I suspect Cucurella will be 1st choice to start off with and then if/when Chilwell returns we will gradually come in as back up to Cucurella and then become competition for the place in the team.
