I think that’s both accurate and completely unfair at the same time. While I’ll happily admit I can’t navigate an ethically watertight path through the international consumer goods market, choosing not to partake in a sportswashing event doesn’t then make me a hypocrite.
magnkarl
Let me just sum the olympics up before it starts. Norway, USA and China will win 90% of all golds in that order. Everyone will get Covid, some poor Swede, Dane or German will say something about China and get “ill”, get put in isolation and never get heard from again. IOC’s old man brigade will be sequestered in a plush VIP hotel where there’s no restrictions, free booze and prostitutes. They’ll release a statement that China is much better than what is reported, don’t you know, then it’ll probably be given to North Korea next time. Long may the sports wash continue!

chrisp65
I wouldn’t pay additional money above the license fee to see the Olympics even if I was in it.

magnkarl
Pack it up and go home. Just wait till one of the superstars get ill and gets shoved in a cell, it’ll be hell… Any of the Canadian big name hockey stars going?
NoelVilla
No hockey from the NHL so this is easy for me to boycott. Not interested in any of the other stuff.
trekka Posted February 2, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted February 2, 2022 (edited) I've started watching my first bits of Winter Olympics action. It's a bit weird (and slightly disrespectful) to start before the opening ceremony but I get that it happens. Now, back to the replay of the curling. "Go haaarrrd!" (kw.gif). sne
Delighted for Nils van der Poel to win the 5000m speed skating gold. Such a likeable guy who goes his own way with training and everything he does. Nail biting finish to the race as well. Speed skating is one of those sports that should be boring but is actually pretty fun to watch. Obviously partly down to who the commentators are. Also helps that some of my earliest Olympic memory is from the 84 Olympics in Sarajevo when Tomas Gustafson won gold and silver in the 5000m & 10.000m races. sne
The van der Poel documentary on SVT Play is interesting. It's called "Nils van der Poel - dåre eller geni?" His training regime is absolutely bonkers. Non Swedes will need a VPN to watch it I think. mykeyb
Put the Curling on this morning and our mixed double team one the first end by one point. Went out to make a cuppa and my lunch for work, came back in and they were 9-1 down. WTF.
