Popular Post Risso
He chose to start a f***ing awful keeper. That's on him, and it cost us the match. I still think he'll be a good manager for us, but last was was a poor decision and he got the result the team selection deserved. 5

I hope he does never play a single minute for us ever again, it's just unfortunate that we're now out of a cup just so that Emery can confirm to himself that his back up keeper isn't a real footballer. The other fringe players who might have played a bit more had we taken the game just a bit more seriously now won't have that opportunity. Thanks Robin, thanks Unai. He was Sheffield United starting keeper then got injured then signed for Villa

Sulberto21
I’m not going to pile on. To play with a high defensive line you need a sweeper keeper. Olsen unfortunately is not that type of keeper. However the 4th goal is pretty poor from him. I thought Emi didn’t have that ability until the manure game (haven’t watched him in Argentina colours shame on me) . If Emi played last night we don’t concede imo. Our defending would have been better too.

The Fun Factory
Nyland vibes. Can do odd good save but no confidence in organising the back line. I just prey Martinez doesn't get injured. Fully expect him to play in our away 3rd round tie in the FA Cup to a top 6 side, so will never get our free home game.
AntrimBlack
Who would be our 2nd keeper after Olsen and the permanently injured Steer? Sinisalo? Too inexperienced? Needs to buy a second keeper in the January window. God knows how many keepers that is that we will have on our books.

a-k
Maybe Olsen looked decent enough in training to be given a chance in a Cup match? Overreaction to Unai here is incredible

Overreaction to Unai here is incredible I suspect Unai wanted to see as many of our players out on the pitch before the January window opens which, with the WC, is only a couple of games away. Unai will now know for certain that Olsen is no where near the standard needed going forward. I doubt we will see Olsen play another minute unless the situation forces it.

Genie
One of the worst goalkeeping displays I have seen in a long time. Often keepers will drop a clanger in a game, he made 4 or 5 errors and doesn’t have a history of being good to fall back on. Ship him out. A good backup keeper is a priority now. If we lose Emi long term then we could end up going down with Olsen in goal every week.
Vincenzo
This is all part of the process…he wants to play out from the back…that’s why Pickford always gets the nod for England No good in friendly games, you’ll only find out in competitive games whether players can play you want to or not Some players can be coached, others can’t…we’ll see

There was a wide selection to choose from running in treacle across the area and only just about getting a toe on it to knock it out for the corner, despite having a 20 yard headstart on Fernandes who was closing down turning a 80/20 long ball into a 50/50 where Chambers had to bail him out because he was stuck to his line calling for a simple cross and then immediately dropping it on the corner of the 6 yard box trying to claim a simple looping high ball by flapping one handed and conceding a corner passing straight to Man U for the 3rd goal standing on his line and watching as McTominay gets the touch just 7 yards out for the 4th goal Imagine what its like for the outfielders trying to play with that going on behind you

I can try to give an answer to that question. Olsen has been the undisputed no 1 for Sweden since 2016 with 57 caps. Some examples, when Sweden knocked out Italy in the WC qualification play-off 2018 he was immense in both games and highly contributed to Sweden reaching the WC. When Sweden played 0-0 against Spain in the Euros 2021 it was one of the best performances by a keeper we have seen in modern time with headlines like "Olsen - Spain 0-0". Also in the other games in the WC 2018, the Euros 2021 and in the qualifiers he played well. At club level he had his best periods with FC Copenhagen 2017 where he played in the Champions League and he still holds the record of the most clean sheets in one season (19). He was bought to Roma as a replacement for Alisson. At Roma he had a stable season until they changed manager who made him second choice. The problem for Olsen is that after Roma, he has been loaned out to several clubs and hasn't really settled or got to play regularly. It's a bit of a strange situation where he still is the undisputed no 1 for Sweden and plays regularly for the national team, but not at club level. In my view he has regressed over the last years, probably because of the lack of playing time and because of injuries. As I've said several times before, I didn't want us to sign him, I don't think he is good enough for where we want to be. Most of all he is not good enough with his feet and the physicallity of the PL can be a problem for him. Throw him in away to Man C or Man U and you are up for a big gamble. I was frustrated with his performance yesterday, even though he made some good saves, it was really bad with mistakes you shouldn't make at this level. I got worried when I saw that he would start. But dismissing him in the way some have done, and questioning Emery and Cutler etc are simply overreactions. With Olsens reputation, to get him for £2M and having him as back up keeper does on paper sound really shrewd. And if we wouldn't have liked what we saw in training we of course wouldn't have signed him permanently. So to summarize we are talking about a keeper who has top performed against the best teams in the world, with performances and such a reputation a couple of years ago that he was brought in as a replacement for Alisson at Roma (though also at that time, I thought Roma overrated him). He is now 32, he has regressed over the last years and hasn't played much. We shouldn't have signed him and I would be surprised if we would see him play much for us again. But quite a few of you should calm down with your overreactions.. Edited November 11, 2022 by Keener window-cleaner 4
