I really don’t know why this up for so much debate, unless people have some axe to grind against Digne. He didn’t do anything wrong. I think you may have hit on something there. Let's see, he was an early high profile purchase by the satanist Gerrard and so has never found favour on here. He had a really good game yesterday (let's hope this signals the start of Emery getting the best out of him) but surely this Gerrard crony cannot be praised, so let's bang on about an imaginary penalty that after scrutiny by VAR was not given. So don't think it's an intentional set up by Unai, just the referee was a plonker.
bannedfromHandV
I was surprised the penalty was not given, we’ve seen them given for far less contact. I think what saved Digne is that he technically did get the ball first, after the Brighton player gets the first touch it then hits Digne’s right leg before Digne then wipes him out. Its all subject to opinion though isn’t it.

cheltenham_villa
I think Brightons goal was fine and the pen should have been given. I think its funny that it wasnt and im pretty happy with the result.
The_Steve
March only to tokepokes the ball onto Digne’s shin. It’s a coming together at best. There’s no way VAR could or would overturn the decision on the field.

Ingram85
He collided into Digne as much as Digne fouls him. Move on. Screw ‘em. About time luck turned in our favour with big decisions.

Mark Albrighton Posted November 14, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted November 14, 2022 I think it’s a penalty, but there’s definitely a clumsinesses about it from both players which probably help us in the final decision. Feels like Lucas is doing alright, quietly pleased with how it’s going.

Risso
No way was that a penalty. I like to think I'm completely unbiased when looking at them, eg I didn't think the Brighton player fouled Luiz for their goal. Digne had the ball and was attempting to bring it out. As he was about to kick it, March dived in with both legs either side of Digne's. A second later and that would have been a nasty scissor tackle on Digne. It was a coming together, with Digne more sinned against than sinner.

The measure most people seem to be applying here is that March touches the ball first. If that's all that needs to happen to call this a penalty then that's struck off by the fact that Digne also touches the ball before the accidental contact with March's leg. The whole thing is a nonsense, awarding a penalty for that would have been ridiculous and thankfully even Chris Kavanagh, who was desperate to punish us yesterday for some reason, could see that.
skarroki
I've always really liked Digne at Everton, thought he was one of the best LBs in the league and when Rafa was messing him about I said to friends "imagine if no big club goes in for him and Villa manage to snatch him". In the end their seemed to be no competition for whatever reason, whether we acted swiftly or whether the only other clubs interested were also not playing in Europe. He's got so much to offer and I hope Emery can get it out of him, his crossing and dead balls are great, his all-round game is very strong for our current level and the age bracket he's in makes me think he could be here for a while longer if we can bring through or sign a young LB to be his understudy / cup specialist for a little while
