This is complete groundwork for a summer move. By the summer he should be 10mill cheaper + his legal case will be sorted (1 way or the other).

And more likely to sign for a top 4 side.  If SG wants him, get it done now.

Yes, for sure.

Great players are exceptional because they rise above and have a standard beyond the average ability of those around them. They usually either command a fee and wage proportionate to their influence or opt to commit to a project that they feel holds promise.

I got a fair amount of dismissive comments and jibes for my praise of Yaya Toure, when I said he's just as much to thank for City's success as David Silva.

He was one of the best at doing exactly what you've just pointed out.

I was taught there are four key elements that make a professional basketballer, and its certainly one piece of insight that I took on because I think it true, and the same could and probably does apply to football. The four:

1. Physicality

2. Tactical nous

3. Technical ability

4. Mentality

Mentality being by far the most important and what determines whether a player can excel at applying his development  and skills when it matters, or if he simply doesn't end up rising up to the occasion when given his chance.

It's more difficult to make the decisions necessary for ideal or optimal outcomes when you are in the middle of a contest fighting for an edge, than it is to observe from a pov that is far removed. The latter is afforded the chance to speak about the situation and suggest what mightve been rather than having to be involved, the former must act and have faith that they come off best.

Very few players can play both ends masterfully. If we get a DM who can influence attacks as well as halt them at the other end, we have the makings of a team that will challenge for silverware and European placing.

No arguments from me there...The CDM we seek has to have quality and Bissouma has....not only can he win the ball with efficient consistency he can dribble and launch attacks too....he is very close to a complete midfielder...but labelled, I guess as a CDM

For me, the description is immaterial....we can call them what we like, its more about doing the job.....and when we watch our team, I find it odd, that some fans don't think we need one.

Additional point...

Confidence is another word well used in football and I would guess it relates to all non singular sports......It's one thing having confidence in your own abilty, its another thing having confidence in your team mates....I would guess the former is more common, than the latter...but its hugely significant, in building teams.

When players lack confidence in their team mates, it affects their own game, and it is usually a thing kept under wraps, unless you are very close to players and they confide in you.

good points,in your post....... I agree with you.

Seems like he'll be signing for United.  He'd walk into their midfield, so don't think he would choose us.

He walk in to ours too.

Hasn't he heard of the Steven Gerrard factor.

If we can get Philippe Coutinho.... we can get anybody.

Our window has already been fantastic. Signing this guy would put it on another level.

If you'd told me 2 weeks ago we'd be signing Coutinho, Digne and Bissouma I'd have had you sectioned.

Quite. Just the first name would have been enough. Bissouma may well not be likely given the other issues, but it does seem like we're looking for someone in this mould to complete our window.

We are a Bissouma away from competing for the top 6

I actually endorse that....and it is becoming a more popular opinion, as we go.

all the podcasters are saying similar to you.....Pete the Canadian, who I think makes some sensible references on the whole...has done a good rendition on our last game against United.

I think he makes some very good observations of our weaknesses.

It really has been a position that we have struggled with for a long time.

Trying to think of the players we have signed to remedy this problem position over the last decade and a bit:

Moustapha Salifou

Nigel Reo-Coker

Jean II Makoun

Karim El Ahmadi

Ashley Westwood (maybe signed as a more offensive-minded player?)

Carlos Sanchez

Idrissa Gueye (would obviously come good elsewhere)

Yacoubu Sylla

Glenn Whelan

Birkir Bjarnason

Mille Jedinak

I appreciate that the game has changed, players like Gavin McCann and George Boateng perhaps wouldn't get near a modern DM role, and Glenn and Jedi were lumps for the Championship , but it feels like a while since we've had confidence in that position.

spot on.

Brighton  will want to sell asap if they plan to get rid as they will need time to geta  replacement  in.

If this happens  think its the end of nakambas time here

I don't necessarily see that.

In a squad of 25  and a position, where its easy to get injuries....to have one only in the squad, is naive.

not only that it breeds competition, which we have been short on, for too long.

It also gives an option to play 2 in a double pivot, against the better sides like city.

I don’t think we will get him. Think he has the self confidence to wait for one of the top 4   I don’t think it will be a matter of money

In which case we move on to our next target.

but if the top 4 want him.....we are barking up the right tree, aren't we?

10mill cheaper to buy and 10m more expensive in wages. It's a totally false economy waiting.

Exactly.  He's the kind of signings we need to keep making each year to improve on what we have. A gradual improvement in key positions will transform the team from mid table to top 4 chasing.

I know there are some on here who love jumping all over these however FWIW there is some chatter on Twitter that this Bissouma to us is a done deal. It was in a thread so he is not claiming any applause, just he'd heard from an ex-player that it was done. Looking at his profile he is respected and not a kid looking for glory. Who knows?
