Yes he will have the option to sign a permanent contract with us when his Barcelona contract expires at the end of his loan as he will be a free agent. He also has the option to sign with any other club who offers him a contract.

Intentional or just coincidence? It would be nice to have players like Cameiro or Tiaga Silva though wouldn't it? If we ever thought it was important, of course. And what I am saying is that Villa should be putting an option in the contract so that AVFC can trigger a permanent contract which would stop Coutinho signing for another club as a free agent if we want to sign him permanently for Villa

PieFacE Posted January 6, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted January 6, 2022 I just don't see a world where Coutinho comes here and it turns out like a Barkley or Drinkwater. Mainly due to the already established connection between Gerrard and Coutinho. There is however every chance that the loan deal simply doesn't work out, that's football and there's a risk factor with any transfer. But I don't see a situation where it doesn't work due to lack of trying and effort from both parties.
