Popular Post jacketspuds
I don't understand why anyone can think that Gerrard needs time to turn things around. If we was a good manager things wouldn't need to be turned around as we wouldn't have got progressively worse throughout the year to put us in this position in the first place. There's been no player development, no implementation of our talented youngsters, probably 90 mins of good performances (45 mins each against Man City and Chelsea), terrible player management with the whole Mings fiasco, no game plan, no in-game management, and lowering of expectations to the point where we should feel lucky to not be in League One. There's plenty more but I'm not going to pop it down as I'm sure I'll just be in even more of a mood for the rest of the day. It's beyond a joke now.
Lord Willard
Surprised there wasn't more booing at full time. If VP rang out the owners and CP would have to address the situation.

jacketspuds
Feels like we are going to flip flop between putting in a good performance and not winning, and putting in a poor performance and not losing. Both of which Gerrard's media mates will use as reasoning for us not sacking him. Then when we do get relegated with him in charge they can just blame the players. Wish I could get paid £6m / year to not have a clue how to do my job.

Lately we have been picking up points, the performance against Chelsea wasn’t that bad, and Sky/BBC is telling them that everything is fine. Popular Post cyrusr Posted October 17, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted October 17, 2022 Having slept on it, I just cannot see how Gerrard should continue. We sacked Smith because of the lack of progress and lack of form. I think it is fair to say, whilst Smith has a massive place in mine and a lot of Villa fans because of what he did. However, it was pretty clear that when he was sacked, it felt that he had taken us as far as he could and it didn't come as too much of a shock when he did go. The problem is that Gerrard was brought in as an improvement, to take us to the next level. Whatever way you look at it, that just simply hasn't happened. We are not scoring goals, we are letting in easy goals, it feels that we have no connection between the players. They barely look like a team. I appreciate that the 2 of the main summer signings have had serious injuries but then he has more or less the same squad that Smith had (with the addition of Coutinho and Digne - 2 upgrades, certainly on paper). We have 1 less point than Smith did at the same he was sacked, and whilst Gerrard has 1 game less, even if he wins the Fulham game is 2 points extra really progress? Last season we had 4 "top 6" games; this season we've had 3. The results have not got any better, and arguably Gerrard had a slightly easier start. Then you look at the players. These do not look like the players that they once were. I genuinely think every single player looks worse under Gerrard or has gotten worse under his management. Probably the easiest and best example is Coutinho. First few games he looked great and it felt like a real coup to get him. However, even by the end of last season, it looked liked it would be a gamble on someone who was only a few years ago one of the best players in the world. This season? No goals, no assists. Can barely tell he is even on the pitch. Woeful. Even the long standing, solid players have looked worse. Mings, Konsa, Watkins and McGinn (especially McGinn) have regressed massively under Gerrard. These were players that were on the fringes of international squads. Even Martinez is making more mistakes. Tactically we are utterly inept as well. We have been outdone without any question a number of times this season with key tactical changes by the other teams that have turned the game. Gerrard doesn't have that innate ability or experience to react to that. I am not really sure what he is actually doing? The worse thing though is the sheer despondency with the fans. I wasn't necessarily dreading going yesterday, I just could not be bothered. The atmosphere wasn't toxic per se, rather it was apathetic. There was limited singing, and although there were moments of something decent, that was it. There are some very hardcore fans around me and they couldn't be bothered to sing, left early and there is just a general malaise around everyone. What Gerrard has actually managed to do is suck the life out of the club and the fans and without that, what is the genuine point of it all? Whatever way I look at it, Gerrard isn't an improvement on Smith without any doubt. I would probably argue he is a downgrade but that is irrelevant. He is not the answer to taking Villa to the next level which ever way you cut it. My main concern though is getting the right person in the role. We cannot get this wrong again as that will only end in 1 way.

Giving him extra time to carry on digging would be a massive mistake but i wouldn't put anything past Purslow at this point. No decent manager is going to want to come here when the majority of the season has already been played and were already dead and buried. Nicho
I see Neville and Murphy defending Gerrard again saying he needs time. Completely ignoring the stats during his time here. Blaming the players for their performances im okay with but after this much time they should be questioning who has improved under him. Dean Saunders blaming the players and calling out Coutinho, one man has been picking him for 20+ games with him looking like a shadow of a shadow of the player. The thing is while they are paid well for their opinions they probably don't watch most of our games, just the ones on Sky, so even if they did put their feelings about their mate to one side, they don't actually have a clue about what we have had to sit through.
