nepal_villan
Just haven't seen anything from Gerrard that makes me feel optimistic. Results have been poor, no identity, in game and squad management has been awful, individual players have not improved, he's wrecked our transfer policy...

StefanAVFC Posted October 9, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted October 9, 2022 It’s pretty funny as people use Arteta as a reason why Gerrard may come good. His arsenal have, and always have had, an identity. We absolutely do not.

If he’d done that and Archer had scored he’d have rightly received credit for it and imagine the confidence it would have given both the team and Cameron Archer. If we still hadn’t scored then at least he’d have tried something. He’s managing with fear and desperate not to lose rather than looking to find ways to win. I hope we wallop Forest tomorrow but that needs following up with a win over Brentford. We can’t do what Leicester did this weekend after beating the bottom of the league team last time out. Gerrard is a shite manager with a flip flop strategy and he has no belief in his own philosophies. Had he stuck with his two number tens regardless of results and performance at least it’s a strategy that he believes in and we can see a pattern in his methods. Instead he doesn’t know his best starting 11 , the best formation and tactics to use with those players. He talked about distances between the players when he came in but since then the defence the midfield and forward line has grown further apart. With his new pragmaball Watkins is even more isolated. He is fast becoming the next Lambert. Unlike Lambert who is going from job to job in the lower leagues Gerrard’s seat is being prepared at Sky. He has no confidence in his own methods. Compare with Arteta who stuck to his guns no matter what. 4

Ok it’s Chelsea next week but we need a performance that suggests at least we’re trying to win. Of course beating Forest first might not be that simple. Well we've played the top 2 in our first 8 games, and a win tomorrow will put us in 9th. That doesn't require any imagination either, though possibly does require not cherry picking facts to support a negative narrative.

In the other thread somebody (I think it was a mod as well) has provided proof we’ve had the third easiest fixture list so far. That isn’t cherry picking. We’ve got 8 points in 8 games and scored 6 goals. That’s fact! So no cherry picking there either! Are you happy with the season so far? Do you think based on our current football that we’ll be top half this season? Hard to say I’m cherry picking! 4
Popular Post DaveAV1
A convincing win tomorrow, we move above Liverpool and so quite obviously all the ducks are lining up. The Scousers know it’s time to bring home their boy, we’re gutted just as Stevie G was proving his true worth. Never the less we can’t stand in the way of destiny but we’ll need to be adequately compensated for such a top manager. We ask for £25m and get knocked down to £20m but what can you do? Two days later, welcome to Villa Park Jurgen. 1
Popular Post Keyblade
I just want to enjoy football again. I've long since given up the unrealistic hope I used to have of any real success once we sold Jack and flailed around with his replacements. Now I just want to enjoy watching Villa, that's it. Apparently this is being unfair on the bloke who's behind paid £5m a year to have us playing survival football. I can't wrap my head around the people defending this, are you people football fans or cultists?

Reivax_Villa
Does anyone think that SG might start being judged after the World Cup? Is there a chance Kamara and Diego Carlos would be back by then or not?

Tomorrows a massive game imo, perfect opportunity for Forrest to get going behind cooper and for us a chance to turn them over and score some goals

I can't wrap my head around the people defending this, are you people football fans or cultists? Mate, I feel your pain. The excuses seem to be: 1. No-one else could do better with this squad, not even Poch or Tuchel. 2. Players have talent but they are not performing because they don't have desire. This is not SG's fault because motivation is obviously not his remit. 3. Players have no talent, squad is worse than Brighton for Potter's first season. This is not SG's fault despite signing 9 players since his arrival. 4. He's learning and his system needs time, despite the fact that if you accept (with Christ-like benefit of the doubt) that he had a system, he's obviously changed it recently. I don't know how you convince people who follow this line of reasoning since their answer seems to be "show me I'm wrong", which obviously isn't definitively possible in football. It's the Sherlock Holmes falacy - ignoring the fact that there may be a simple explanation; that SG is responsible for a lot of the above and just isn't cut out for elite management.
