Our next 3 games are against teams who will look to control possession so we can run this formation out a couple more times. Agreed, brilliant counter attacking strategy against an in form confident Southampton, they were decent, pressed and passed well and it just suited the way we set up to a tee. More of the same and we can better our finish from last year.

Mantis
Credit to him for reversing what was turning into a very nasty run of form. Weird how we're mostly poor against the bottom clubs but outstanding against midtable teams under him.
Spoony
If he gets us playing like that every week we will literally win the league.

This is not his ego trip that he can demand things, he has done nothing to earn that MacPhee and Danks were Purslow or Lange signings for long term growth. If Gerrard cant accept them then he has to leave too Come on mate, your hatred of our manager is clouding your judgement here. 5
M_Afro
Well done Stevie G you sexy beast. Never in doubt from start to finish. Let’s back this manager with everything that we have because he offers a real chance to us. I never thought I would see us sign a player like Coutinho. No Gerrard equals no Coutinho. A few more like him and next season could be really fun. UTV
Zatman
Played better with Young at left back not bombing forward every minute and gave us better balance
Farlz
That was really good today. A lot better balance since the tactical switch.
villa4europe
I'll moan for the sake of it 4-0 up and brought on sanson, Bailey and Buendia rather than the really high potential youngsters that we have waiting to break through What a time to be alive 2
Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted March 5, 2022 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted March 5, 2022 I've really liked over the last month that he's shown that while he's an ambitious dreamer with a plan, he's still enough of a pragmatist to tweak that plan to make it work. We look very well balanced at the moment and he's doing a very good job.
LondonLax
I was pretty frustrated two weeks ago with the persistence of the Christmas tree formation and was nervous he would persist regardless of the results but we’ve changed our formation and are getting more from our squad so that’s all you can ask of the manager.
YouUnastanFren
Very pleased he was willing to change the system that he's been using for his entire managerial career. So many managers die on the hill of whatever system brought them their first success, the willingness to change it will be valuable
Popular Post maqroll
Credit to Gerrard for righting the ship. Dropping an in form Buendia two straight games was bold and its paid off. Buendia will be a massive player for us, no doubt. The squad depth we will have going into next season will make other teams jealous.
Popular Post lexicon
Not posted since the Russians invaded, for obvious reasons, but it's good to see Gerrard turning things around. 18

avfc1982am
Fair play to him for pulling things around the last couple of weeks. At a time when many are stressed with events elsewhere that was a much needed escape today this afternoon.
AndyM3000
First game I went to in ages today, the tactics worked but I do worry it won't work very often. He wants to change us to a possession based team but we had 35% last week against Brighton and 38% today, there's still an issue with passing the ball through midfield and we are playing a lot of long balls. Time will tell, needed the win though.
OutByEaster? Posted March 5, 2022 Moderator Share Posted March 5, 2022 He wandered over to the club shop when he arrived at the ground today, bought some kit for his son and then had a kickabout with him on the pitch after the match. Love that.
