Sticking to facts not tropes, could you highlight any aspects of Saturday’s performance that illustrated this “novice” status? Lazy? Really, he is less than three years into management, he is learning it (last time I checked, this thread was Steven Gerrard, not Steven Gerrards coaching team?) As for Saturday, it was a good start (for the umpteenth time), just to remind you, Remi Garde’s first game was equally if not more impressive yet most laud him as an abject failure. Lazy or not, it’s early days, promising signs but still a way to go (BTW that has nothing to do with any “agenda”!)

Pep went straight out of youth coaching to become a serial winner. You could give Bruce 1000 more games. You could give Smith 1000 more games. They won't become elite. 2

I never agree with you but I have to on this occasion not so much that experience is over rated but More so the fact that you don’t need to manage 1000 + games to be a capable manager, Gerrard has been coaching since 2017 has been surrounded by good managers his entire career. We have a game later and I've barely thought about it for the past couple weeks. I've not gone through every page in here so apologies but it just feels very much like Purslow wanted to get his big name pal in. We've made sure to throw in all the classic PR work this week. Very strange feeling, hopefully snap out of it all soon. I think the fact that Purslow knows first hand the type of character SG is, is to our benefit....being close to something and having an insight in to it, is a huge advantage...why should he be castigated for that, we should be pleased. I think to suggest that our CEO is hiring a band of coaches, on the notion that he is friendly with the Head coach, is imagination running wild.....There is a lot of money riding on all this, our owners, never got it making platonic appointments, being suggested. He allegedly had a 5 hr interview and in his own words was a grilling, so to suggest it was a gimme, is wide of the mark Imo. The fact Purslow, knows "the man" is not to be confused, with an old pals act.....but time will tell as no one can predict results, and that will be the barometer he has to work by. Steven Gerrards big name, is also a distraction and a bit of a throw away remark, from folk who are yet to be convinced.....His name will open doors, but in this case it's an albatross too....should he be doubted, for being one of the best midfielders of his generation? If any fans, cannot see this guys winning mentality and Leadership skills in advance of the games.....then they just have to sit back and wait and see.
TDR V2
Having just watched the pitchside video on the app I've noticed a couple of things. 1) Pre match, the players who seemed to be walking around on their own, very noticeable 2) During game, the way Gerrard and his staff were encouraging the players, applauding close calls and good moves 3) The way Gerrard reacted to the goals, you can't fake that, that is determination

That's either in you, or its not, its born in to you.....Andy Gray had it as a player. Whether he can instill it in to his players, is for us all to wait and see.....Ferguson was like it too, and look what has happened since he left.

We clearly had different tactics on Saturday, and it might be too early to talk about our philosophy but it’s been made clear that things have been made more intense for the players, and evidently so based on the stats. Gerrards success is irrelevant to my comment
