Same goes for any sports team you support. Hornets are my NBA team but I really dislike LeBron James. If they signed him would I want him to flop and be detrimental to the success of the team? This is nonsense though, the job he has been given at Aston Villa is the same as the one he has been doing for 3 years at Rangers. However, if we are competing for Europe and threatening the big boys established positions then we will be bombarded with it. Have to put that all to one side and look forwards. I hope it works out for the best, I’d rather focus on trying to be positive/optimistic now because, ultimately, us fans are relatively powerless. We simply have to support this club/team as well as we can. It only benefits us to do that, they need our backing. I do thinks it’s a considerable risk or gamble but am hoping it is a calculated one and works out. I don’t want to cover or dwell on any points of negativity now, it’s tiring. Maybe this is the shake up we needed, maybe he will bring some much needed ruthlessness and discipline. He’ll obviously be an inspiring figure for our existing and future, incoming players. That could work to our benefit. But his ability and status as a player barely has any significance, it’s how good a manager he is that is the key… I hope he falls in love with the club and has a connection to the fans… I hope he makes us a strong team that is comfortable on the ball and can retain possession… that competes well and attains or adheres to the highest standards possible… No one can predict how this will work out… let’s wait and see. There is simply no point and benefit to moaning and groaning. It makes no sense to and isn’t of benefit to anyone. A lot could do right as well as go wrong… we don’t know which way it’s going to go but let’s hope for the best. Anyway, I hope we can move forwards and progress. He has to hit the ground running, we need positive results and performances right away. A new manager bounce is desperately needed but I am hoping for much more… I don’t really give a shit about Gerrard or have any strong opinions on him… All I care about is Aston Villa FC and for us to be successful. If he does so well with us that Liverpool is an option for him in 2.5 ish years, it will mean Villa are doing very well and will be a very enticing managerial position for many top level managers if Gerrard does leave. If he doesnt do well, he prob wont get Liverpool, and we wouldnt be sad to see him go anyways. 2.5 years is a long time in management, Deano only just made it to 3 with us. Sorry I was just trying to be rational with a simple but floored analogy. I realise my mistake now and won’t try to be rational again. I get you’re not convinced and recognise that there are two sides to the argument and SG could be good, bad or indifferent. You just seem convinced he can’t possibly be good because he hasn’t won anything at a top club or simply don’t like the bloke because he’s a Scouser or got sent off for a bad tackle when he was a kid or something or other.
