useless
I had a dream before Christmas that we got relegated, in my dream I was really sad, 'not again : ( it took us long enough to get promoted in the first place', I thought, it was a crushing blow. And then I woke up and Iwas relieved that it was only a dream, I don't ever want to have that wicked nightmare ever again or for it to ever come true. I used to go to the games when we were in the Championship, and we won lots of football matches. I'd probably prefer it to be honest. The only down side - and it is a major one - is the financial chaos. Anyway, it will happen to us sooner or later (no sooner than next season!) so not much point worrying about it.
Villa_Vids
We are a premier league club, we should have never been in that league in the first place. It will be a very long time until we get relegated again IMO.
useless
Wasn't as if we were any good in the championship, spent more than any other team ever in that division, yet got nowhere near top two and most of the time it was us struggling to get into the top six, we even had a season of getting nowhere near that, and more than often the opposition played better football than us, again despite all the money we spent.

It was kind of weird getting used to winning most weeks. Of course, we couldn't win when it counted which is why we ultimately didn't get promoted, but that was one of my most enjoyable seasons as a Villa fan. My most enjoyable season? The one right after, also in the Championship.

delboy54
I know what you are saying but the predictably of us regularly losing to the top 5 gets boring, whereas in the championship there is no VARs, the refs are just as bad but at least they dont seem to have the "unconscious bias" that they have towards the top 5 Not so much wankfest/skyscum frenzy in the championship... Not saying I want us to go down, but is the best we are ever going to do is finish mid table or go on a cup run until we inevitably draw man yoo away and get knocked out? The top 5 is a cartel and I cannot see us ever breaking into it

But at least we won most home games so at least less weekends were ruined. Edited April 21, 2022 by The Fun Factory

Smith got sacked for underachieving with our squad, goes to Norwich who in comparison to Gerrard's fully fit and improved squad (Smith got to play his preferred 11 through fitness issues for about an hour) are absolute shite, where he gets only 3 points less than Gerrard. I don't want to slag off Gerrard, but on that evidence we may not have made the right choice. Longer term let's hope Gerrard is a success, but that table is very grim reading.

Let’s be honest though - Smith’s 2021 tenure was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It wasn’t just about the 5 defeats in a row.

That said if you sack Smith for underachieving, then spend on improving the squad further and the results do not improve. That doesn't look like such a good decision, especially seeing as Smith this season never really got to play his strongest XI.
