Genie
As someone else said, football isn’t complicated. We could all see Mcginn and Coutinho needed to be dropped and Buendia had to start. Just do the basics and he did it. Awesome job.

Last week they might have had doubts about the quality of the squad and had thoughts about of they wanted to come here and try to deal with them.
Popular Post Keener window-cleaner
Thanks Danks for giving me my Villa back, even if it only was for one game. It was not only the performence, but as much the atmosphere and the positivity. There are few things I enjoy as much as a competent administrator going about his business quietly and efficiently.

WHY
Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but you do know this guy usually manages a kids team on a Sunday.
Popular Post ciggiesnbeer
As much as I would like to say what he did was obvious, it wasnt to me before he did it. He definitely seems to have known exactly how to use Bailey for example. Something that has eluded previous head coaches. His formation was very straightforward and nicely balanced over the pitch. No more of this "we are super narrow but still surrender the center" nonsense Gerrard had them playing. Even his gentle dropping of McGinn was tactfully done. Martinez demands respect and has always been a second captain on the pitch anyway (as has Tyrone tbf) but you could see the lift that one change made. It was classy when Villa fans chanted McGinn's name when he came on., Thats how its done. No drama, good players go in and out of form. Buendia and Coutinho will battle it out for that creative spot. Great. Sensible. no drama. I just loved how utterly sensible it all was, easy to understand. Enjoyable to see the players expressing themselves clearly playing with more freedom. Danks more than earned his wage packet. Good job. Edited October 23, 2022 by ciggiesnbeer

MrBlack
I had no hope going into to today's game. We'd gone to shit from the moment he arrived, and for pretty much the duration of his time here under Smith, Gerrard and Beale, and Gerrard and Critchley. I was annoyed he wasn't one of the ones given the boot with the rest of them. Turns out I was wrong. He's clearly understood what was missing during the Gerrard era in terms of shape and tactics. Arguably, that wasn't rocket science. But it seems he is quite the motivator and the players like him. Kept it simple and our players responded. Nice work Danks. And, remarkably, has coached at the elite level in NBA basketball, which is just kind of ... wut? Definitely a people-focused, psychology-oriented coach. I cannot imagine Gerrard in a million years posting this on Twitter. Not in a million and a half. No disrespect meant to Gerrard, but wow -- a very different mindset at work. This is someone who truly seems interested in trying to step into the shoes of individual players as a way to help empower them to reach their potential on the pitch. I think this kind of thinking would sort of mortify Gerrard, but maybe it helped today. Edited October 23, 2022 by Marka Ragnos
Tom13
What I like about Danks is that he seems calculated, there's no ego. Unlike the predecessor.

I'd guess this helped inform his philosophy a lot. The concept of spacing is very underdeveloped in football. However it as a philosophy has taken over the nba in recent years and in large part is what has led to the explosion in offensive efficiency in the nba. Essentially the current most effective attack strategy in the nba is get your opponents best defensive player (normally the centre) switched onto a player they can't help off of. And this creates a huge amount of space to attack once you switch the ball to the other side of the court. And because the opponents best defender can't make himself felt around the rim without being punished by a kick out you get easy buckets in the paint with little trouble.

ender4
He looked so tired and he said that he was physically tired on the post match interview. Is that just from this game or has he spent the last 48 hours coaching continuously through the night?

Popular Post AV82
His post-match interview is such a breath of fresh air it’s unbelievable. I think he should be in the running for the job after such a turnaround and if our top targets (Poch and co.) won’t make up their minds I’d be happy for Danks to continue until the WC at the very least. What an impact. He seemed to have a great connection with some of the players which was a nice surprise. I love that he focused on a video of the players all sprinting back together in the 86th minute to defend a counter attack. It’s brilliant, simple, effective stuff.
