A lot of his good work goes unnoticed, as people only look at goals and assists. He creates plenty of chances that aren’t converted. It’s much more worrying to have a play making midfielder who doesn’t create, Emi does. I think he is guilty of having his weak spots are more easily seen than his strengths. The throwing up of his hands in the air when he doesn’t get a foul, him giving the ball away when trying too hard etc. but we’ll miss him a lot. He finds gaps, always moving, always hungry for the ball and has a lovely touch and great vision and can score. He’s also good defensively for us through his tenacity. All traits not easy to replace especially with the likes of Bailey who is woeful. Critically, we’ve lost quality squad depth losing Buendia and subsequently lost a strong option for Unai to use across the front line. His injury, along with Mings, is a huge dampener to not only the optimism within the club, but the momentum and cohesion built since Emery arrived. Could take a fair while to get us all gelling again. Very well said , it won’t be easy to replace his vision for a pass for our strikers. His finishing is good too & can scored from header too.. Really worried who’s gonna create in his absence.

What he does with the ball is obviously going to be missed, but I think his off the ball work is just as important. His constantly chasing the ball and don’t give the opposition time is an important part of our defence.

Keener window-cleaner
We really missed his eager to always wanting the ball, his movement that creates spaces for others and his through-balls. It's going to be tough if we don't replace him with a creative player. We can't replace him with just some speedy winger. I was kinda hoping we'd start with Coutinho in his place against Newcastle as he's the closest we have to Emi. It's possible for McGinn to fill that role if we go 4-3-1-2 and bring in Tielemans for Bailey.

He was so off the pace vs Valencia and walking at the end but people jizzing themselves off over a simple ball into space that Buendia scored with great run and finish

McGinn the best option then, imo. Bailey to the bench and Tielemans in the 3 man midfield.

alreadyexists Posted August 16, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 16, 2023 I assume the “ready for tomorrow” (posted yesterday) might be a reference to his operation maybe? Don’t know what else would be happening today? His wife is absolutely gorgeous, so at least there’s that Emi. Spend some time getting better with your wife and kids, and come back stronger
Tomaszk
Is it weird the team only had 'Ty' on those t-shirts? Hopefully that means Buendia's injury isn't quite as bad?
