I saw them live and although it wasn’t on the level of GG Allin, my revulsion wasn’t piqued.

Not revulsed Yes, John Waters made a film with a notable scene...my old friend Alejandro was a sort of performance artist with a penchant for a similar shock value. It has it's place on the spectrum of art. Sounds like you and Alejandro might have hit it off!

sidcow Posted February 13, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted February 13, 2023 Bloke on Mastermind just now has U2 as his specialist subject. My only thought is how popular he would be on VT. It's all consuming in my brain.

This is a bit like the people that go into the Shed Appreciation Topic and tell the shed enthusiasts how to put their sheds up with little experience (*Yes we don't have a shed appreciation topic - read into that what you will)

chrisp65
Yeah there’s some nice things in there, it’s just the RSD prices are always a bit, pricey.
villa4europe
Its what record store day is Pop in to a store on your lunch break and see a Travis live album for £50 you're not buying it you're having a chuckle, RSD when you've been queuing out in the cold since 6am and the 7 records you wanted more have already sold out you're throwing cash at someone for it

bickster Posted February 16, 2023 Moderator Share Posted February 16, 2023 Just started looking at the list, I'm up to J, there's some stuff I'd like, like the Morriconne stuff and a few others but I can't help but notice a whole heap of scraping the barrel bollocks. I'm not a huge fan of live albums anyway but... Jesus Jones live? WHo the f*** wants that? Haircut 100 LIVE - come back Jesus Jones, Haircut 100 frickin live, have they edited out the 16 year old girls screaming at Nick in 1982? And that would be the best bit The Selecter Live at the NEC in 1980 There's an album by Landscape, one hit wonders Landscape Einstien a Go Go. Seriously is there ANYONE who even remembers them fondly, that one will be stuck in those sections of Record shops called the RSD section (I know at least 2 record shops have them) Forever! and I've stopped ranting because there is a Liminanas & David Menke soundtrack to a film called Thatcher's not dead which has just gone into the must have list, oh and The Orb &Lee Scratch Perry But seriously a good number of those releases would polute landfill

My relations with my record shop of choice are that good My "local" RSD shop is in Cheltenham... Did that once in Bonn during rona and again it just ruins the whole thing about RSD, I ended up in the shop 3 days after picking up my order and then handing 24€ for a 7" biffy Clyro cover version of bowies modern love it was a real what the **** am I doing moment, the early morning start gives it a buzz that justifies the crazy purchases
bickster Posted February 17, 2023 Moderator Share Posted February 17, 2023 Right, I've found a genuine, what RSD started out as and should be release Snapped Ankles - covers EP. On the list Sonic Boom / Silver Apples EP on the list New York Noise - Soul Jazz comp, on the lsit (I often buy a SJ comp from RSD but there's no real need for them to be RSD releases) But here's another one that peeves me even though I want it. Psyche France 8, it's the 8th release in a series of French Psyche compilations, it really doesn't need to be anywhere near RSD, the first 7 weren't Does Beggars Banquet really need to be a RSD release? Nobody bought the Stewart Copeland Klark Kent album when he releaed it at the peak of The Police's fame, who would want that now? The RIch Kids - Ghosts of Princes in Towers, an album that is only of interest because of who was in the band, I already have a copy of this, it's majorly dull, no-one needs to buy that (Glen Matlock/ Midge Ure / Rusty Egan and Produced by Mick Ronson) so dull they split up

chrisp65
I mean, I get that different people like different things about the music and music collections and all that, so it’s whatever floats your boat. I’ve seen the queues outside record shops some years and the whole vibe and i get that’s exciting. We had a guy in this office was all over it, queueing early and seeing what was available and absolutely chuffed that he’d picked up the Star Wars theme music played on a washboard for only £44. Good luck to the guy. But I think I’m a bit old for that. There haven’t been many I’ve really really wanted, and when I have, I’ve sent my wish list to Santa and then rocked up mid afternoon or the next day when the crowds have dispersed. There’s a few things on that list that I like the look of, the Alpha And Omega stuff, Morricone, Future Sound Of London, and Amorphous. But I suspect it’ll start off stupid money but some of that wishlist will be in remainder bins soon enough. The only thing recently I was absolutely determined to get was the Brawd Bach album of B sides. As it happens I must have been the only person that wanted that because it’s been in every shop I’ve visited since. Anyway, obi strips, what the hell are they all about?
villa4europe
Ocean Colour Scene have done it for me, they've had a RSD release for about 6 years running now and it's stuff that with the 90s vinyl lull was never released in vinly previously, thus year its b sides and seasides whatever its called Nas has been doing it too, again with what I think is previously unreleased stuff, this year's a love album, his one from a few years back was illmatic live with an orchestra and that's my biggest RSD miss couldn't get it anywhere and it's an incredible album, I'd say in general the stock for hip hop stuff is not good So it just depends what it is and where you are Last year I bought fontaines DC which was a general release because there wasn't much else there for me (dunno if they did that on purpose, great timing a lot of people did the same from the early queue) Edited February 17, 2023 by villa4europe

Xann
Obi's were like an old fashioned library card system. The shopkeeper was meant to keep them to know what to reorder? The customer keeping them was led by finicky collectors. Anyone know any? It's an easy diss, RSD, but when looking at what I've picked up over the years? They've been nice things. One rip off being the Hendrix 'Doriella Du Fontaine' which got more than one release, which I thought was a bit cheeky. Oh, there was a Numero, 'WTNG', which was eventually released on CD, which I would have preferred. That was annoying. Nowt there this year though, but it's not if there isn't any recently released stuff I'm interested in?
chrisp65
And for anyone in the Liverpool area that’s interested, Les Big Byrd album might have a vinyl release today although it all sounds a bit chaotic.
