HalfTimePost
Good signing for them. Feel like a year from now we could've been looking at upgrading CB and he'd be a great option but probably too early for us to buy someone that isn't a backup to our current. Good price too.
Popular Post GarethRDR
A £25m defender, Milenkovic is most certainly not. I'd barely have him ahead of Hause, let alone Konsa or Mings. 4

Pass comp rate Winks: 72 passes, 89.1% completion Luiz: 44.6 passes, 82.7% Short passes Winks: 28.6, 92.6% Luiz: 14.9, 87.8% Medium passes Winks: 30.1, 92.5% Luiz: 18.4, 87.3% Long passes Winks: 11.4, 77.1% Luiz: 9.87, 71.1% Essentially, Winks is a better passer, while Luiz's numbers have shown to be he's better carrying the ball. Defensively their numbers are similar, though Doug's a bit more active pressing the ball and tackling. Still, in possession, with players like Buendia, Bailey and (fingers crossed) Jack, we have plenty of forwards who can carry the ball and dribble. It's possible Dean would see Winks as a better fit than Doug because of his passing ability to get those guys the ball better than Dougie does. Milenkovic was Fiorentina's best defender by far last season and at times it felt like he was the only one who knew what he was doing back there. This chart from FBRef.com shows how his performances last season compared to centerbacks from the top five leagues.

He's bang average, and those stats need to be looked at in the context of being part of a long-standing Beppeball side that treats possession of the ball like herpes. He's hyped off the back of coming through at a young age and being built like a brick shithouse. Has the benefit of time on his side, sure, but he is absolutely miles away from the quality of our starting back-line.

Phil Silvers
Sky headlines. Matheus Pereira issues statement on social media saying he wants to leave the club, **** him then, wasn't keen anyway. Is this the new way of issuing a transfer request without losing out financially.
HalfTimePost
Pereira received a life changing offer 3 weeks ago and is now saying "Thanks but lemme go" to WBA. Wonder where he's off to Apparently he's maybe going to Al Hilal in the Saudi league. Would explain why we looked at him and decided against persuing as is making his motivations very clear.

That then increased to €30m and now it seems any suitor will need to part with €35m. And it appears Villa are prepared to do that.ClubDoria46 (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Sampdoria are expecting a ‘maxi offer’ from the West Midlanders. The report adds that the offer has been written down and they have ‘sealed the envelope’. All that remains is for club officials to deliver it to the Genoa-based outfit. They say the Italians see Damsgaard’s exit as a ‘necessary sacrifice’, with money tight at the club.

HalfTimePost
Tough to call Damsgaard. He looked great at the Euros but his numbers in the league don't look promising. I'll concede to those who have seen more of him but £35m is a lot for somebody with 2 goals and 4 assists last season.

Only just turned 21, first season in the league and he wasn't expected to feature as much as he did. Showed steady improvement during the season and then the Euro's happened with the Eriksen incident and Damsgaard filling his place and excelling. I don't think he's ready to be a guarantied starter at Villa but he's really talented and would be a great signing if we look at more than just next season. He's absolutely no Grealish, but not many are. Give him another year and he'll be ace.

Villa had the 2nd lowest budget of any club at 40 million pounds. Will have to sell El Ghazi/Hourihane to balance the FFP books now and will probably have one more CB in on loan this season. Next summer we'll probably only add 2-3 more as well, unless we're going to start flipping players for more money and reinvesting again. FFP is what's going to start holding us back now more than anything. As much as I would hate to lose Jack, his transfer fee would be 100% profit and we'd be able to accelerate our progression by 2 years, if we invested properly.
