If Konsa had put in that performance people would rightly be calling for him to not play right back again

Only the ones calling out Bogarde

He didn't lunge at the ball, he tried to make a tackle but the winger beat him with good skill, this happens all the time, people only framing it as him lunging at the ball and making mistake because it lead to a goal, if they hadn't have scored, no one would be looking back at that incident as a mistake by Bogarde, if anything it was more Barkley's fault, he just stood there after Bogarde was beat, made no attempt whatsoever to track back and block the cross, and I think that's who Konsa was looking at with an air of disbelieve after we conceded, not to be critical of Barkley, could have done better in that moment, but these things happen, and he played well when he came on

Was 100% a mistake trying to tackle at that stage and was amateurish tbh. Should have stood him up and waited to make the tackle at the right time. Or just continued to stand and if you eventually get beat then fine, but it would have made it a lot more difficult. But he made it so easy for him, not sure how you can't say that was a mistake.

Worth nothing that he tied Pau for most progressive carries+passes.

Clear to see why Unai wants to continue developing him.

Oh, what does he know?

I think the only serious criticism of Bogarde on earth this week is emanating from Villa Talk. Every one is dead jealous we have this talented young man.

Konsa has put in bad performances before at CB never mind RB, and nobody was calling for him to never play for the club again.

I’m not talking about people saying he shouldn’t play for the club again. That’s obviously nonsense.

Im talking about people denying it was a bad performance and suggesting Konsa wouldn’t be criticised if he put on the same performance.

He would. It was a poor performance. You’re allowed to say it was a poor performance whilst acknowledging it’s his debut and he was probably nervous and still has a big future

i think 'poor' is a little harsh, he looked exactly what he was, a player making his premierleague debut and he coped pretty well, was average but not terrible had a few good moments.

Unless we can send young players on loan to another Prem club or one of the top leagues in Europe, we have to blood some ourselves and get them experience, that comes with risk, we can't keep sending players on loan till they are 23, well apart from ones we just signed.

I've watched the Leicester goal again, and not only was it not a mistake by Bogarde to try and make the tackle, he had no choice, Mavididi had already sent him the wrong way by feigning to cut inside, the only way Bogarde was going to stop him getting past him on the outside was by making the challenge that he did, if you look very closely it was impossible for Bogarde to stay on his feet and track Mavidid, his two option were to either make the tackle or just stand there, he was too off balance to do anything else, again it was good play from Mavididi and that won't be the first time you see him doing it to fullbacks this season

As well as all that, there were others that could have done more, Barkley just stood there, when he saw Bogarde was beat, he should have been racing back to at least try and stop the cross, and then there was another passage of play after the cross had come in, regardless of whether Bogarde made a mistake or not, wasn't even as if that lead directly to the goal

He had a pretty bad performance, but it's just one performance. You'd think we give players more than 90 minutes to show what they're worth. Not ready to put in my verdict yet and honestly don't think it's fair to do so.

Our full backs will come across a lot bettter players than Mavidid many many times this season.

This is why he got the start. Everyone in a Unai squad has to be capable of progressing the ball. Kosta, while a better defender, hasn't really shown that part of his game. If Bogarde can cut out some of the give aways then I think we have a pretty good set up with Bogarde starting up the game and Kosta coming on with a lead and killing off the game.

Bogarde's error was trying to pre-empt that Mavididi was going to cut inside when that route was being covered by Barkley, he just needed to continue showing him down the line and cut any angle off for a cross which is the benefit of doubling up on a player. Don't really get the criticism of Barkley for the goal, he did his job and had no time to react once Bogarde got caught out. Bogarde will be the better for it and fortunately it didn't end up costing Villa in terms of getting 3 points either.

It was his debut.

Ive seen plenty of our senior players make similar level ‘errors’ and much worse, week in week out.

I enjoyed his debut, thought he was OK. Good luck to him, and mainly for our sake.

It's going to be a long two weeks.

It's Unai's fault. He's given us nothing else to talk about. He should try being bad as a manager so we can get his page count up like Stevie G's.
