So all things being equal there's as much chance of us putting 3 past them as there is of them doing the same to us. If we score early we seem to then weather a storm before the other team attack, commit players forward and we get another 1 or 2. Games at the moment seem to be highly variable because it greatly depends on who manages to get the first goal. Without fans there it's more like a training match so can be quite technical and tactics come into it more. I think a problem though is people hype themselves so much over particular games that 2 or 3 nil defeat will see a bit of perspective lost in post match threads and inevitability Dean Smith one will get pretty hot. Hopefully it dosen't happen but you could see the way people worked themselves in a frenzy after Leeds won 3-0. Yes a poor performance but it didn't mean DS was clueless or we were going to tumble back down into the bottom 6 and it hasn't happened two months on. Hopefully we don't lose 3-0 either but it could happen if we have a slow start and aren't quite on it in first 10 minutes like Leeds as they're a nightmare to play if they go a goal up. Everton lost 3-1 to them on November 7th and that was their third straight defeat but they've regrouped since and are nicely placed in top 4 so a defeat at Old Trafford isn't going to define thingas as many teams lose there and finish 6th or 7th. Point would be a very good result for me just like Chelsea was.

birdman
Don't want any of this inevitable "reality check" nonsense if we lose. As long as we give it a good go what will be will be. However, no reason why we can't go there and win. Just do what we've been doing to other teams. No fear and full focus on defensive duties.

Still quite confident and think we’ll win tonight.

To get Barkley back in you are making 2 positional changes with El Ghazi in particular very ineffective on the right. Every player in the squad should be held to the same standards and nobody that started against Chelsea has lost that starting berth, barring fatigue. Sends out the wrong message too. " Hey you've been playing brillant but im going to put this fella back in because he's more high profile " I've always been of the belief, you have the jersey until you aren't performing or taking your chance. Be harsh on anyone to get dropped now.

He can't beat players down the by line. And on the right, if he comes back inside and it's on his left and he's really clumsy then. On the left, cutting back on this strongest side, that's his thing. Actually in last season's match he started on fire and was destroying that Williams kid they had at left back that day but pulled up injured after 15 minutes. Trez came on and then did o.k (how long is he actually out for?) I simply can't see Barkley starting. If you discount the Brighton game which he lasted just a minute of he actually hasn't played a game in 8 weeks so you don't tend to throw players back in to high intensity game if they've been out that long unless it's an exception like Grealish. Makes more sense to me to bring him on as sub with half hour left and then start him v Liverpool in the cup.
JoshVilla
There aren't many players from other teams that I genuinely dislike, but that Fernandes is a right helmet. Got a fiver on him running into McGinn's arse and winning a penalty..

Stevo985 Posted January 1, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted January 1, 2021 I'd take a point if offered but I'm optimistic we'll make a game of this either way. We've got a genuine chance of winning this.

Gut feeling is a loss (I predicted 2-1 against Chelsea FWIW) but I’m confident we’ll make a game of it and certainly have a decent chance of getting a result.
