Ingram85
Off topic I know but I’d like to clarify I actually can’t remember why I even had a Scottish team as a young kid, I wasn’t a proper supporter or anything, just kept an eye on them, probably Gazza related tbh. I don’t remember when I stopped following them but haven’t done so since the late 90’s I do still keep an eye on a lot of teams, Roma, Juventus, Villarreal, Marseille. Not as a supporter but just have a soft spot for them. Just not Rangers anymore but I’d still want them to smash Celtic. I don’t remember when I stopped following them but haven’t done so since the late 90’s For me it was because English teams were banned from Europe when I first started to watch football and Rangers were shown in the Champions League. Back then there wasn't much other live football on TV so I watched almost all their games but like you had no real attachment beyond that.

I was there too, they invaded the holte end, can't remember how it happened but we ended up getting in the witton end, game was stopped through pitch invasions and finally abandoned when they went mental, I'm pretty sure from memory they took the holte end pre game and wouldn't budge so game was started, we were 2-0 up when the players and officials ran off. There wasme and another kid and 2 adults, not our parents so they took no chances and made us run for it as rangers were coming over the half way line, no idea which way we went but we ran down a street through a line of hard villa ******* just waiting there for them with chains, bats you name it. It was absolutely mental, could have done with the army In to sort them out. Edited October 26, 2021 by Phil Silvers

Would be interesting hearing an adults viewpoint, the chaps that took us moved away and have passed away now so I only have my kids version but the above is how I remembered it. From what I saw and heard back then, my abiding memory is how lucky that no one died that day, it was brutal.

Similar, I’ve followed Motherwell’s results since I was about 6 years old because I loved the ‘shiny’ I’d stuck to my wall of their club emblem

We were not close or anything but we are the same age (almost) and grew up in the same town. Have tons of friends in common and I've watched him play countless times with various bands mainly NINE and Viagra Boys where my other buddy Sebastian sings. Great guy, really fun at parties and yeah, it sucks.

I went to this with my dad but my uncle who was a naughty boy down the Villa said that they put Rangers in the Holte the night before to get them off the streets. What kicked off was a villa fan from Erdington in the Witton who got a tricolour out just before half-time which sent the Rangers supporters balmy. The streamers and the Greek especially were absolutely gutted about the Holte and these are the people you refer to with the bats and chains etc who picked off any pissed up Scots who fancied a proper fight and there where many
