A local derby when we've got injuries against a team who just sacked their manager after a draw against Man City just for the manager bounce before this game, who happens to be Big Sam a specialist in survival? It's guaranteed.
villalad21
Why no news about Barkley? Smith playing mind games?
Robtaylor200
I dont think Big Sam will have had chance to organise their defensive play yet Villa win no problems

PieFacE Posted December 20, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted December 20, 2020 I'm strangely optimistic about this game. Which is not usually a good sign. 2-0 win.
MaVilla
The 9 subs thing is great, I always thought we should move towards leagues like Holland where they can name.....11 subs I think? For 9 subs, I think it would really be great to name say 7 senior subs but then always reserve a couple of the sub slots for youth, then if a game is going really well we could sub on some youth for development, like Ramsey, chuka or Barry etc With that in mind. Martinez, targett, mings, konsa, cash, Luiz, mcginn, grealish, barkley, traore, watkins. Subs: steer, hause, elmo, nakamba, trez, hourihane, davis, Ramsey, chuka or Barry. alreadyexists Posted December 20, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted December 20, 2020 There’s bound to be a young academy prospect on the bench with the increased subs... Louie Barry? Or perhaps it’s a little too soon.

Or perhaps it’s a little too soon. I would 100% have Louis Barry on the bench especially now we can have 9. Everything about the game v Burnley id of loved Barry to get 15mins instead of Davies. Quick wirey player who can finish, with little pressure I believe could have been the difference.

Under Bilic they certainly allowed a lot of shots at goal, Johnstone has the most saves of any keeper in the league so far and they've conceded the most of any team as well. As long as we've got our shooting boots on (debatable) we could reasonably score a good number tonight. I know we struggled against Burnley but we certainly didn't lack creativity, and if we put in an identical performance and actually hit the target more often I think your prediction could be reasonable. Heaton, Hause, Elmohamady, Taylor, Nakamba, Ramsey, Hourihane, El Ghazi, Davis I think that's the team most would go for if both Barkley and Konsa are available. Confident if that team plays it would put Boggies to the sword. Be nice to see Heaton back in the squad. Wouldn't mind one of the youngsters like Barry to be on the bench if we have 9 subs but maybe a bit too soon. Whether it's Traore or AEG who starts, they have to start putting the chances that come their way in the net. Far too wasteful with their powder puff shots and no wonder Jack was frustrated at the end of the game on Thursday.
robby b
I do have plenty of respect for West Brom (even though their shirts are made out of a leading supermarket's carrier bags). * other supermarkets are available.

TRO
I think the baggies game plan will be stop villa at all costs and see where it takes us. i think it will be similar to the Burnley game.....just hope we can find our shooting boots
Farlz
Martinez Cash - Konsa - Mings - Targett McGinn - Luiz Traore - Barkley - Grealish Watkins If everyone is back then pretty standard team. If we play to what we're capable of then we should absolutely wallop these but it's typical this is Big Sam's first game, you'd expect a reaction from them. Already starting to wonder how many chances we're going to have and miss tonight..
useless
If any of our U23 players make it to the bench have a feeling it could be Philogene-Bidace, will probably depend on the injury situation with the first teamers though.
MadridVilla
Would be quite funny to put Barry on the bench just to wind up West Brom, no other reason
maqroll
We tend to struggle at the Hawthorns. I think playing in an empty stadium will help us. Still think this is going to be a grind though. Barkley wasn't on the bench last week so I don't expect him to play today. We NEED these three points.
El Zen
I’m feeling greedy and want us to go out and absolutely dominate them like we did Burnley, with a more normal goals per attempt ratio, and beat them by a handful. We have what it takes to do that, on a good day. Realistically, though, you have to expect them to fight hard and not give us anything cheaply. We should beat them, but let’s not pretend it’s a disaster if we don’t give them the same treatment we did, say, Liverpool
