lexicon
Was thinking about who are best African player of all time is, and I think it's probably Gueye, despite his short time at the club and how bad the rest of them were. Then it got me thinking about other things, such as our best player from each continent. My thoughts: Europe - Grealish (perhaps showing my age here) Africa - Gueye N. America - Friedel S. America - Angel (Douglas Luiz rapidly approaching) Australia/Oceania - Bosnich Asia - This is the tricky one. TECHNICALLY, Turkey is in Western Asia, so that would make Alpay eligible. Who would you pick? Who am I missing here? Edited December 15, 2020 by lexicon

Europe: Mcgrath Africa: I mean, if we're saying whilst playing for us i wouldn't say guaye. kodjia scored some important goals for us, but i do have a soft spot for elmo who's been a good servant so i'll go for him. N. America: Yorke S. America: I don't care how early it is in his villa career, Martinez all day long for me Australia: Bozzy Asia: never had an Asian player play for us in the PL...not sure we have ever had one in any league Edited December 15, 2020 by tomav84

Are we talking about the same two footballers? Jonathan Kodjia might be my favourite African of all time, never mind favourite African Aston Villa player.
maqroll
If Turkey is a UEFA country, their players can't be considered Asian, IMO.

Geographically speaking it's mostly in Asia (97% IIRC) and it's technically part of Western Asia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Asia) He's the closest we've got, from what I can gather
Enda
Alex Tonev (Europe), Michael Bradley (N America), Ullises de la Cruz (S America), Yacouba Sylla (Africa), Brett Holman (Asia/Oceania).
Enda
Really stretching it here, but Neil Taylor’s mother is from India. Not a citizen though.
