Wrexham AFC - Ryan Reynolds/Rob McElhenney

The series is very good. And I do think Reynolds and McElhenny are good people trying to do right by the club, they've done things right.

They're still basically doing the same thing Citeh have done though. It's good for Wrexham obviously and they're a 'league standard' club that's suffered from horrific mismanagement so in a way feels a little more... acceptable that they've benefitted like this. But it's still not really a fairytale. They've blown away their competition with investment. They stopped being underdogs the second they got bought by people with deep pockets that they were prepared to use, and did - getting successful League standard managers and players in, using their profile to get sponsored by companies the National League couldn't even dream of...

Is it the same as City though. Inflated sponsorships using the owners dough to prop up the investment, player wages being subsidised externally. Not sure Wrexham have done that.

The effect is the same, but yes they've not, to anyone's knowledge, cheated in the manner Citeh have done. They've still been playing the the national league on easy mode due to the money they've been able to spend. They've just done it 'legitimately', rather than Citeh's blatant cheating.

I see Ben Foster was wearing a chest cam for the game Saturday? Had never seen one of these used in a match before.

he wore them quite a bit, he has a youtube channel where he posts the vids of his in game chest cam stuff.

You've never heard of Ryan Reynolds?

Nope. I spend most of my life travelling, except for the last 6 months when I've been mostly based back in England.

I don't watch TV and very rarely watch films.

Jeez.... Come on Robby. There is a vid on the last page. "You'll probably f*** it up but give it a try"... It's....Mcelhenney. 😉

Oops.  :s  Sorry Mr Mcelhenney! 😔

And there I was feeling confident I might have got it just right. Good grief, I don't think I've ever misspelt someone's name so much in my life. 🙄

Easy mode.

Took until the penultimate match of the season to win promotion.

McElhenny

Oh for goodness sake... It's Mcelhenney. Small first E, not a capital. And there's an e before the y.

🤭  (No, seriously though you were much closer than me, as in my post on the previous page).  : >

They've had a season where they've had a very good team fighting them, but the 2 have blown the league away.

The team chasing them has broken the previous National League record for points, the previous National League record for goals scored, the previous National League record for games lost and has the record National League top scorer…

…and yet even so Wrexham have won the league with a game to spare.

Easy mode, yes.

I fundamentally disagree with you, as do seemingly most others. It’s a pointless debate because neither side is going to yield. I think it’s great, you think it represents the evil in football amid a nostalgic desire for things to go back to how they used to be, which ain’t gonna happen. Money drives football, as it drives anything and everything, typically the more money you have the better you will perform, but it’s not a guarantee - ask Todd Boehly (or however it’s spelt).

What do you disagree with me on? That it’s been easy for Wrexham or that they’re significantly financially stronger than every side in the National League (and League Two)?

I haven’t once said that the owners are bad (in fact, I’ve praised them and said every club should have owners like them). I just root for the underdog naturally so when some club gets financially doped and hyped up, I go against wanting them to do well.

That isn’t saying Wrexham are a horrible club or a stain on football or anything.

Ah, I wasn't aware that Wrexham were (illegally) state owned and that they've been found to have cheated the league for the last 12 years.

I thought these owners were actors, not leaders of a petrostate.
