DaveAV1
Most professional sports are psychological warfare. Sledging in cricket has gone on for years. Pundits are quite happy to describe “winning” a foul. The England captain is well known for his ability to gain penalties. Although perhaps he needs to practice taking them a bit more. Penalty shootouts are by their very nature an uneven contest. In normal play they’re given to compensate for cheating in the first place, or at least that was the intended reason before the new skill of “winning a foul” was added to a player’s skill set. So to at least even up the contest with some psychology is legitimate within the context of the game. Most clubs employ sports psychologists, Emi is a perfect example of why.

For example, they should be the ones holding the ball and giving it to the taker. Any messing around from the keeper, book them, they won't continue doing it then will they. I think they will be from now on.

maqroll
Not to put a damper on things but I can't escape the feeling that Emi's antics don't reflect particularly well on AVFC. I understand he's a bit eccentric and whatnot and I enjoy his goofiness..to a point. The thing with the glove and when he does that after a big save is getting old fast. It was funny the first time. But now it makes him look like an idiot. 3

DaveAV1
The great thing for us is that Emi has built a huge reputation as a penalty saver. Similar to the reputation Schmeichel had with one on ones with strikers. Players are already half beaten before Emi says a word.

Popular Post AntrimBlack
Martinez plays for Aston Villa, that's why there is a furore about it. If the England keeper did it to get England through to the next round, never mind win the cup, there would not be a word against it. It is pretty minor compared to diving for a penalty or potentially breaking someone's leg. And it is really up to the penalty taker to rise above it. ( If you cannot take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.) Personally, I thought it was brilliant, like the shithousery against Man U. It's a game - nobody died.

sheepyvillian
I'm just looking forward to the Holte- End reception that Emi gets. I imagine that will put a lump in his throat.

Made In Aston
I don't think Emi will be back for the Liverpool game. He will want to soak it all in back in Argentina and spend a bit of time celebrating. It might be the only time he gets to win a World Cup, so who can blame him?!
