I don’t think the central midfield duo works, we need another player dropping in to make a 3 or even a midfield 4, there was no space for the midfield to play the ball forwards to Watkins in dangerous areas, as for the Duran-Watkins it’s just not a good idea at all, there is a reason the old school 4-4-2 has fallen out of the modern game. The one time Watkins drifted wide slightly, he put in a great ball (won a corner I think) which he would’ve looked to get on the end of… no-one there, presumably because he had gone wide.
