With all due respect, I think some Villa fans are a tad deluded with their assertions that he should be in the Euro squad ...... its too soon and, personally, I wouldn't have him in my squad just yet. If he progresses even half as much next year then he's a shoe-in for the next World Cup. I think this is unfair on Ollie and a bit short sighted. It shouldn't matter that his rise to the top has been quick. If anything it's a testament to his work ethic and quality that he has been recognised in his first prem season. Maybe those saying it's too soon aren't really qualified to make that judgment? What is it now, a minimum period in the prem before you can be considered for international football?! BTW....I'm personally indifferent to his inclusion however, I'm not going to slate those that want him in there or believe he deserves it on merit.

I think you have to put it in to the context of where England are as a team and who else there is 26 man squad if he takes 3 strikers (which he should) then for me he's in Kane is obvious, DCL is living off his pre Xmas form, it's then Ollie, Bamford or Tammy, take Tammy out because he doesn't play enough, Ollie or Bamford are both in the same championship to England squad contender boat, personally I'd take Ollie as I think his running is better and he can stretch the game more + he needs less chances, a Leeds fan would disagree with that Those 5 being England's best strikers is what it is

I would take Ollie Watkins over those two on any team I was putting together. I think we have the team to make a huge dent in this Euro tournament .....ON FORM. Trouble is, too many are not on form and are going on reputation.
onmeedson
Ollie needs a rest, sad for the lad but still chuffed as a villa fan that he gets the break he needs.

KenjiOgiwara
Watkins offers something up top that's a bit of a niche in that England squad though. I'm a little bit surprised he went with an injured Kane with relatively little depth, but that's me.

Bad decision but he might get away with it.

It shouldn't matter that his rise to the top has been quick. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't agree he has reached "the top" just yet. He has a great engine but I would suggest that has limited relevance at international level. His hold up play is improving but it is not good as yet and his finishing is decent but not great ..... yet. I think he will get there but I'm struggling with those holding their heads in shock that he hasn't made the final squad. Remember too that Southgate builds squads that fit the shape and style he wants to play. He doesn't just pick "the best", they have to be the best fits with his plans. I'm happy with his progress, I'm happy with Southgate's selection and I'm generally happy with the progress England have made under Southgate which has been very, very good.
vreitti
Well at least we now know he isn't any good on the wing.
Aston_Villan4
Do we think Ollie gets back in now that TAA is out with a quad injury? Or will Southy bring in another RB?

WallisFrizz
Apparently Lingard favourite but I’d prefer JWP. We’re already stacked with forwards.

This is exactly why if we were dropping £40m on any bottom half PL player I’d take JWP. Not the best midfielder we could sign but the one who would win us most points alongside Jack.

He only scored a goal and an assist more than Traore yet played over 1000 minutes more. Just because he scored a couple of good free kicks isn't worth spending 40m on and he doesn't suit our system

My view as well. I keep seeing the media link him for his set pieces, unfortunately we can roll him on and off so he'd be pretty wasted sat on the bench. I assume Lingard will come in.
