One of the unlucky 100 not to make their first match day squad. Probably be sold for a profit soon.

He will get 5 years of loans first

Maybe in hindsight, but isn't he a Chelsea fan and got offered a huge pay rise?

Sure, but you need game time to develop and secure a long playing career. He was shortsighted imo. Then again, always easy when judging the past with the outcome in hand.

Agreed, and God knows what Chelsea are saying to these players to convince them to sign. There must be some "guarantees" of playing time.

Carney was poorly advised.

Meh, He got a five year deal on £100K+ a week. That's over £25m guaranteed for him even if he never kicked a ball again. Impossible to turn that down when there was no certainty he was going to make it as a pro footballer. If he was offered similar by us then you could say he was badly advised but he probably wanted to move back to London too.

He was particularly unfortunate that he was in the team, getting game time and playing well before getting a nasty injury.

They signed another 50 players so he’s well down the pecking order now.

A sensible take. Its incredible that we have developed a system whereby we will, in the near future, if not already, have a high number of 40+ year old millionaires kicking round this country who never really made it as a successful footballer. People who been given borderline generational wealth based on the potential they once had as a footballer in their mid to late teens.

Strange world

Not in hindsight, it was obvious as all hell to see at the time.

He was itching for a move every summer from the age of 16 or 17, his parents and agent(s*) were pushing him too much.

He has all the attributes. I hope he can become the player he should have, reports he's had to completely change the way we runs to protect his legs from further injury though is not a good sign

Though yeah, good point.

Frustrating one with Carney. A lot of rubbish is spouted on here about his ability, that is never in question. His attitude, the advice he received and his decisions are very dubious and I'm sure at least part of him reflects on that, a bit easier to swallow as a millionaire footballer though.

To get it straight, he was absolutely top drawer throughout his teenage years and I fully expect he will still have a good career and is still capable of going to the top. His Villa decisions have cost him game time and now he is playing catch up and being overtaken by younger players.

He wanted the Chelsea tracksuit, wasn't about money as we offered him a big number too, wasn't about playing time as we could offer him more, it was simply the ability to say he's a Chelsea player

Can't complain too much as I can understand why, Chelsea are a huge club, the biggest English club for his age group, hes not the first footballer who tries to run before he can walk and he won't be the last

Palace is a good move for him

His agents / team etc have cost him big time.

He would be in Morgan Rodgers position now, playing an attacking midfield free role in a Champions League team. Due to Ramsey and Buendia's injuries he'd have started probably 20-25 games last season.

Let this be a lesson to our younger players.
