Great move for McKennie but would have thought Schalke would have wanted more up front. That would have to be an obligation to buy, rather than an optional clause you would have to think. You want the new guy in charge of transfers out so that we can spend a few days/weeks replacing him therefore causing us to take longer to make transfers? Or are you on the wind up? Either way, its boring.
romavillan Posted August 26, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted August 26, 2020 Lots of McKennie to Juventus stuff over here today, if they mention competition for his signature it's usually just Southampton mentioned.

It's an option to buy from what I've read. Great bit of business by Juventus if they pull it off surely.

Well I am surprised - at both Juve's interest and Schalke not preferring an outright sale this summer. Ah well, it'll be interesting to see how much he is utilised this year. Don't believe that link, Juve have loads of midfielders and not sure McKennie is of that quality given likes of Rabiot and Ramsey were largely bench warmers this season. He'll end up somewhere in the prem. Edit; Just seen multiple sources are reporting this so looks like I'm wrong. Popular Post TrentVilla Posted August 26, 2020 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted August 26, 2020 I know its frustrating at the moment but I don't think there is any need for concern at this stage. Not a lot is happening in the market (Chelsea aside) and I suspect there is a bit of a disconnect between the way clubs are valuing players (pre-COVID) to how buying clubs are valuing them at the moment. I also think its reasonable to conclude given Smith's comments re meeting with Lange that our actions may have been delayed a little by that appointment. What we've seen though this summer and in fairness throughout our current owners tenure is efficiency, a willingness to invest and a desire to improve. Those have been consistent traits of this era, even this summer in the absence of first team arrivals we've seen this in effect. So as much as I'd have loved us to have 2 or 3 players in by now and as much as I though we would have done I'm not concerned, frustrated yes but not worried. There is a clear desire to add quality, there is seemingly the financial means to do so and we will no doubt make additions very soon. It is logical though if we are trying to sign less players and of a higher quality than last summer the deals will be harder to do, likely more time consuming and certainly less frequent. Plenty of time left in the window yet and lots more absolute tripe to be written by journo's who know nothing about what is going on.
Zhan_Zhuang
I suppose they did drop 'prepared' from the club badge... Must admit i'm getting slightly nervous about our lack of activity as we see others around us looking to do some business. To be prepared for a new season it would be prudent to have a few weeks pre-season with any potential new acquisition. This season is going to be brutal, it's going to be full-on and we'll have new players playing catch-up, not good.
OutByEaster? Posted August 26, 2020 Moderator Share Posted August 26, 2020 I'm not in the slightest bit concerned as yet. I think we're now approaching the peak period of the window and over the next fortnight we'll see lots of teams making moves - I'm sure we'll be among them.

sne
McKennie is someone I was excited for us to sign, shame if we miss out. Pirlo is cleaning house at Juve and is getting younger players with more mobility (and lower wages) in McKennie fits that bill. Just like Kulusevski does. The likes of Khedira, Ramsey, (Rabiot) Higuain will be shipped out if someone can cover their wages. Matuidi has already been moved on. Edit: Swapping Pjanic for Arthur in another example of this although he is more of a playmaker. Edited August 26, 2020 by sne
