Exactly, and because it’s an FA investigation we only know about the football bets. There are a million other things to bet on.

"yes doc", have you tried to stop gambling before and not been able to? "yes doc" trust me, i know that gambling addiction is a very real problem...i just have my doubts here on the basis that his ban was reduced because he allegedly has one. AndyM3000
Could be ones we don't know about but it doesn't sound like a gambling addiction just off that alone. It's not a lot of bets over that time period, where's the 10 fold accas full of South American teams he's never heard of it? He bet on himself to score/win when he played and bet on his team to lose when he wasn't playing. He backs himself, nothing indicates any match fixing at all and yet this would have got a longer ban than using drugs if it wasn't for the gambling addiction. mrbojangles
They have only released the football bets and have stated that he bets on multiple other sports including casino. If he is spending a considerable amount of his money on bets then that is an issue. Obviously doctors etc have been involved and he has been diagnosed, not sure why people feel the need to query someones addiction with limited information. Villatillidie95
BBC Sportsday reporter said he passed on confidential team news to third parties beforehand....what a prat! You don't know who will get hold of that info, as a fan it would be annoying to know that teams could have advance warning of the opposition! In the prem you cant afford to do that

If he wasn't such a valuable asset, he should have his contract terminated.

Villatillidie95
also betted on his own team to lose 13 times according to sky sports news, including 7 fixtures when he wasnt playing. 15 bets on himself to score in 9 different matches, which have a penalty of 6 months to lifetime ban apparently. Davkaus
Reading the details of the bets make this punishment seem unduly lenient. Should have the book thrown at him. I wonder what is actually involved in diagnosing someone as a gambling addict. It seems like something it'd be fairly trivial to persuade a professional you have if you have an interest in doing so. Chindie Posted May 26, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted May 26, 2023 It's one thing to bet on things your tangentially connected to, such as other games in your sport (though that is a bad move still and I can't imagine any sporting body would be happy with it) but betting against your own team... Ugh. That suggests a mindset that's only a very short hop away from influencing the outcome of a bet through your own actions. They should have been far harsher in the punishment.
