Rugeley Villa
That’s very disturbing and surreal. Also noticed Italy has had a climb in infections and deaths after it seemed to be dropping.

Mic09
Boris' father about his son falling ill: Quote “It has actually, I think, served an amazing purpose in the sense it’s got the whole country to realise this is a serious event,” he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme. No sir, we knew that already. But thank for concern about the common folk.

All I have left is falafel, rose petals, star anise, goji berries and ostrich eggs. Omelette?

Lebanese cucumbers are the baby ones that they sell in Lidl for kids. Although I've only just learned that they are really called Lebanese cucumbers and not "cucumbears" At least you read the Lebanese part right - I read that as cucumbers for ladies who are sexually attracted to other ladies!

I dunno....I stumbled across Katie Hopkins social media and saw her handing out advice on how to sleep if you’re worried about boris being in ICU and then read the replies...I let myself down and I’m ashamed Are we allowed to talk about his time in ICU as a conspiracy theory aimed at exactly what his dad is talking about? Not doubting he was ill but at the same time I’m not of the belief that he received standard procedure or treatment and with the news that the police in Manchester had to break up over 600 parties last weekend I would argue the message still isn’t getting through

Everyone else with the virus just gives up because they don’t have the fortitude to deal with it. Or because he wasn't told to wait until he's fighting for every breath before being left on a trolley in a corridor for many hours before actually being seen.

Surely its quite easy to enforce a lock down with huge fines and other punishments if they really wanted to.

But I struggle to imagine a "crisis denier" waking up, hearing about the PM and suddenly thinking "Christ, this is for real". I don't think it took the Prime minister to fall ill for the country to take it any more seriously than they did.
It's Your Round
The key for (moronic) people waking up and taking this seriously is either when they get the virus or when someone they know gets it. Until then, for a lot of people, it just won’t seem real. Most intelligent, reasonable people will have taken it seriously from the start.

Before that though I weren’t socialising anyway, so not a lot has changed for me at the moment apart from no work.

But I struggle to imagine a "crisis denier" waking up, hearing about the PM and suddenly thinking "Christ, this is for real". I can definitely imagine a certain type of white, middle-class Conservative in late middle-age, living in one of the less affected parts of the country (say, Devon, for instance) without any caring responsibilities, who could be persuaded to take this more seriously by Johnson's illness. Of course, if your non-complier is a 19-year-old living in a student house, trying to throw house parties, then sure, it wouldn't be effective. None of which is to say that I believe the conspiracy theory - the occam's razor is just that the overweight middle-aged man who kept shaking hands with people hospitalised with a highly infectious virus, became very sick himself.

Morley_crosses_to_Withe
For someone who might have read the logic for this or be able to piece the reasoning together/more intelligent than I.... How are we still a couple of weeks away from the “peak” when most of us have barely left their house for almost four weeks!? Because there is around a 3 week lag between getting the virus and needing hospital treatment. Most people have only been on lockdown for a couple of weeks.
Popular Post markavfc40
Director at Public Health England just said that over the next few days they expect new cases to plateau/the curve to flatten and then in around 3 weeks the same will happen with the number of daily deaths. That means for the next 3 weeks at least we can expect around 900 deaths a day. That will put us on approaching 30k deaths in around 3 weeks time before the amount of daily deaths starts to drop. It looks like UK and US could well be the worst hit by this in terms of deaths. Certainly in the first wave. Two countries that had the advantage of being able to see what had happened in China and perhaps more importantly what was happening in Italy. Two countries led by leaders that were both playing down the threat when it was clear to a lot of people, without access to a fraction of the information they have, how serious this all is.
