I went to college an hour away in Rochester in the late '70's and early '80's and wings were already big then. Meat, gravy, meat, maybe a potato covered in gravy with meat and white bread on a side plate. Nothing green within sight. What was amazing was that everywhere you went there were the toilets that had shelves in them so you could examine your stool. I think people only sh*t once a month so were probably fascinated by it.
