When she’s picked up a guitar and sung something live I’ve been bowled over. Listen to a recording and nope, not my thing at all. Which I guess brings us to: great live bands that do disappointing albums. She is typical of that whole trenche of people making a happy living out of the music industry, playing folk festivals, releasing albums, writing for others… and nobody has heard of them. I’d have to admit, when my mate said he’d lined up a few weekend sessions with Amy for the kids I didn’t know who that was and couldn’t quite work out why he was so excited. My first thought was that she can’t be that good if she volunteers on Saturdays! Ha , I clicked the link and thought it was youtube showing me an advert to start with , eventually realised it was the song ... way to mellow me for but not offensive on the ears . 3 hours ago, chrisp65 said: It’s one of those weird ones, you hear her live and you go away thinking wow this is the next massive massive thing I thought that with "Spangled" , who i drunkenly discovered at the isle of Wight .. the song /band probably won't get anywhere , but live they had a real energy , especially the lead singer who was bouncing around all over the stand .. but I'm a sucker for guitar solos in upbeat songs You'll hear if you click the link , they probably should have formed 15 years ago and they would have got far more coverage and airplay ,

Acerbic, witty, down to earth. Second was OK. Then they slid off so hard into ambient shoegazing that the city of Sheffield had to spontaneously generate The Reytons as a defence mechanism to do what the Arctic Monkeys should have been doing for the last 10 years. absolutely brilliant band i was 22 when the first album came out and had already seen them live a few times and bought in to the hype, whenever i say something in other threads along the lines of oasis and liam gallagher in particular are still so big because since oasis there's been nothing or no one to take on that mantle for the next generation these guys are about as close as it gets IMO but i dont think they want it, i think their albums have grown and matured in a same way that i have, their lyrics are still incredible, i would put AM as the best album of the last decade, not even close either, the last one was a bit weird but grew on me once id taken the time to properly listen and work out what it was all about, saw them 3 times touring that album including the royal albert hall live album, really good tour, he's still mardy live and they dont put a show on but they're tight and a really good band, helder is a brilliant drummer, i think too many people are put off by his "artistic" nature because artistic is a kind word for he's a bit of dick and then the fact that they're not the band that people want them to be, each album is very different, i would guess that a lot of arctic monkeys fans have a different favourite song, there's a lot too them foals are probably the only other band from that time period that i have the same kind of love for
sharkyvilla
The Doors. The Rolling Stones I wouldn't put in the same league as The Beatles, Who or Kinks as well.

mjmooney Posted October 14, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted October 14, 2021 My knowledge of Arctic Monkeys is confined entirely to their rendition of The Beatles' "Come Together" at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. I thought they made a very decent fist of it. Beyond that, I know literally nothing of theirs.

They have certainly got better as musicians since then, but the rawness of it kind of adds to the charm.

Definitely my two favourites by them. I think the songwriting had really developed by that time and they were more confident musicians. Although I do like most of the stuff they've put out tbh. I also think that Turner's solo stuff for the Submarine soundtrack is very good too.
